1 AnswerOther - Internet10 years agois there any reason not to search from the address bar, in opera?
as opposed to the google search field, if you're searching with google, anyway?
1 AnswerOther - Internet10 years agois "kodomo no jikan" in danger of being cancelled due to new japanese laws?

1 AnswerCell Phones & Plans1 decade agodoes the talmud state bacon is not pork?
i know it seems a ridiculous question, but michael chabon has a character, in his "the amazing adventures of kavalier & clay", assert it, and wondered what he may've been thinking of.
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agohow can i get properly trimmed eyebrows?
i suffer from "i'm getting old" eyebrows: some grow really long and stick out (lovely picture, no?). whenever i try to get them trimmed at a salon, however, they just run clippers over 'em, and they get all choppy looking. is there anything i can do? could i trim them to an almost shaved length without looking like an escapee from an asylum? they drive me nuts, as is!
3 AnswersOther - Beauty & Style1 decade agocan plastic surgery correct a difference in the relative height of one's eyes?
if one of your eyes is slightly lower (or perhaps more deeply set) than the other, is it possible for plastic surgery to make the eyes symmetrical, or would that require overly extensive bone work, or something else. references, please! thanks!
3 AnswersMedicine1 decade agohand sanitizer vs plain alcohol?
is washing your hands with a 70% solution of rubbing alcohol any different, effectually, than using a commercial hand sanitizer like purell (the active ingredient of which is a 70% solution of alcohol)? i hate the perfumes in the latter, but i'd like clean hands. links to scientific studies would be nice.
1 AnswerOther - Health1 decade agocan someone explain the principle behind this multiplication method?
http://video.yahoo.com/video/play?vid=119444&cache...
the technique is interesting, but i don't understand its workings. how do you know which intersection to use? be gentle, please; i'm, essentially, innumerate. thanks!
2 AnswersMathematics1 decade agohow long before flaxseed powder goes "bad"?
i've had a bottle of cold rolled organic flaxseed powder, with no preservatives, in my fridge for about two years. it's been unsealed, but, mostly, unopened, during that time. power to the appliance has gone out once, to my recollection - perhaps for as long as eight hours - and the door gets opened about as often as one would imagine. the powder has no particular odour. is it still "good"? does it still contain the nutrients i'm looking for (if somewhat belatedly), principally the omega-3 fatty acids, or is it, likely, without nutritive value, and, possibly, actually rotten?
5 AnswersOther - Food & Drink1 decade agoi have a problem with an apple powerbook G4: help?
i left it in hibernate for too long, apparently. when i took it out of that mode, all i got was a black screen, and a little spinning colour wheel, before it powered back down. eventually, i shut it down with the power button. when i turn it back on, i get a white screen, the apple logo, and a "wheel", at the bottom, "spinning" endlessly - it never gets to the desktop. i've tried powering it down, with the power button, and restarting, holding down the shift key, hoping to get it into safe mode, but i get the same white screen and endlessly "spinning wheel". anyone know how to get me out of this? thanks in advance.
1 AnswerLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agohas cimetidine (tagamet) otc been taken off the shelves?
i went looking for it, today, and no one (longs, walgreens, the corner store) had it, or even space for it, on the shelves. i'm interested ONLY in cimetidine. i am not looking for alternate medications.

1 AnswerOther - General Health Care1 decade agowhat's the cheapest ebook reader, or modified pdf that will read ebooks, available?
i'd like something roughly the size of a paperback. i don't care if it's twenty years old, or used, as long as it can read a variety of file types - stuff from project gutenberg, pdf's (the latest ones, if possible), random proprietary formats... basically, i want to get free ebooks onto it, and, uh, read 'em. maybe even buy some, if i'm feelin' crazy. pda functionality would be nice, but is not, at all, necessary. a certain amount of product support, be it company or "fan" based, would be nice, and replacement parts would be good, too. any ideas?
2 AnswersPDAs & Handhelds1 decade agohow does one fire harden wood?
i've read much of fire hardening wood - especially when the making of spears is discussed - but i don't kow how it's done. can someone give me a step by step detailed account? can only "new", ie, unseasoned, wood be fire hardened? does one harden the entirety of a spear, or just the point, and why or why not? are there different methods? are some woods incapable of hardening, and others hard enough, without? thanks!
1 AnswerHobbies & Crafts1 decade agowhy can members of the church of latter day saints (the mormons) drink coke, but not tea?
according to snopes.com: "the truth is that although Mormons have been advised by church leaders to avoid caffeinated beverages, this suggestion has not been passed down as official church doctrine to which all members in good standing must adhere (unlike, say, the admonitions against coffee, tea, tobacco and alcohol, which are church doctrine). Mormons can swill Coca-Cola, eschew it and all other caffeinated beverages, or indulge in the occasional Coke and still be considered churchgoers in good standing." http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/mormon.asp
further, why may they drink, "mormon (!) tea", another stimulant beverage, but not caffeinated ones (except, for some reason, coke)? "though not as potent as... relatives in China and India, the southwestern species contains enough ephedrine-related alkaloid ingredients to make it functional... ephedrine is a stimulant to the sympathetic nerves and has an effect on the body similar to adrenaline.". http://www.gcrg.org/bqr/7-3/mormon-tea.htm

when writing an email or, now (this is the first it has happened, here), using an apostrophe causes the "find" bar, at the bottom of firefox, to pop up, and it prevents me from using contractions (and, one would expect, the genitive). wtf?! more importantly - how do i stop it? VERY ANNOYING. it often prevents me from cutting and pasting, as well.

1 AnswerNotices and Errors1 decade agowhat sort of light output do camera flashes have (lumens would be my preferred unit)?
i'm thinking of three or four particular types: phone cameras, disposable cameras, older cameras that use one-time flash cubes, and older cameras that have an integral flash (they can often be found at thrift shops). is there a range of light ouputs? how broad is it, if so? are there different wavelengths of light? are flash cubes still even available? essentially, i'm looking for the cheapest brightest flash (reusable'd be nice), in a hand held, or smaller, size. (i thought physicists might have something to add, here) thanks!
