The problem with Atheists going to Hell?

I heard some where that the real puinshment of Hell is not feeling God's presents. If that is true and if it is also true that Athiest don't feel God's presents now, will an Athiest feel that being dead in Hell and alive on Earth are the same?

Haha, one would think. But a Christian would say, an Atheist does feel God's presence, just chooses to ignore it. In Hell, an Atheist wouldn't be able to ignore the fact that there is an absence of God. But you make a good point.

  • Our consumer driven capitalist society is the only thing that gives so many of us even a reason to live, to get the next new phone or t.v. the next new gadget or gizmo, and I too am quilty of all of these things, I do not pretend that I am better than all the rest of the cattle. BUT WHAT IS THE POINT?? Did we hack and slash our way through milleniums of advancements to be stalled out at microwaves and rollerblades?? we conquered the mountains and valleys, the wwaves and the skies, through human innovation and unwavering vision, yet we have plateued on an ancient battlefield - RELIGION. We are all still captives of an idea that was created thousands of years ago to control an unruly populace, and yet still we fight it out, with suicide bombers, and suit-wearing bike riders, old men in dresses, and prepaid faith healers. If God was anything other than a specific manifestiions of a collection of belief's then his omnipresent, omniscient *** would not want you shitting on His paradise. And an all-knowing all-forgiving God would not banish non-believers to an eternity of torment, thats not exactly all-forgiving. And lets not leave out Allah you stupid jihaders how long do you really think those 72 burka-clad virgins are gonna be virgins?? I don't know about you but I think i'll need a few more than 72 if I have to spend ETERNITY with them! A belief should be a guide your moral center - not a reason to be good - but the psychological manifestation of what it is that is good with in you. How long will our race even scar the face of this paradise that we are destroying, is it even worth trying to be remembered by a culture not worthy enough to even Exist?

well i actually believe hell is more than just being seperated from the light of God (though that is the worst part)... it's also physical and spiritual and psychological torment as well.

and no matter how hardened an athiest is, some light is always shining through a crack nagging at them, rather they realize it or not. so hell would be different for them for sure, you can count on that.

    good question.

no, i don't think hell would seem the same as earth to a hardened athiest.

    God bless and later!

Hey, I get to respond to two questions in one. First yours. THere will be a significant distinction for atheist when they reach hell. It is not just not feeling God's presence, it is knowing that His presence was true and they denied it, or rather suppressed it throughout their lives. THey feel His presence now. They believe in God, they just suppress their feelings about Him. However, in Hell, they can no longer do that because they will meet Him and bow their knees to Christ Jesus, and confess that He is Lord.

Now to the second question. I saw Brenda's World response. She has more faith in Science than in God. Christians believe that God is the First cause of everything. As she so rightly said, science doesn't have a lot of the answers. Since science can be traced in history back about 4500 - 6000 years, I'll stick with my Eternal God.

For all of those things Science can and cannot explain, we Know, and she was right in saying it, Christians Know it is GOD. Do you know Him?

First, let me say that the explanation I'm going to give pre-supposes that Atheists are going to Hell, and I don't necessarily believe that. I am one of the Christians who thinks that Christ died for EVERYONE's sin and that it's quite possible that not believing in God is just one of the many things he died to redeem.

However, to answer your question: I think the concept of "separation from God" is deemed to be a Hell of sorts because, at the end of the world, all of the WORLDLY things that atheists have counted on to make them happy instead of a relationship with God will no longer exist. So they will basically dwell in a sea of darkness while those who are not separated from God will have eternal Joy in his presence.

First of all is it's God's"presence"not presents, that's Santa Claus. In this day if an atheist or any other person who rejects God dies he goes to Hades(not hay-dees)a holding place. That's where he gets to sit and think about IT.(Read the story of the rich man and Lazarus in the book of Luke)The rich man saw Abraham and Lazarus afar off,and there was a great gulf between them that no one could pass(separating hades from paradise)The rich man said"oh,let me go back and warn my brothers"to which Abraham said"Even if one were to return from the dead(hinting at Jesus' resurrection)people still will not believe".

See,you will sit there for God knows how long wishing you could go back and start over, but it's too late. Then one day judgement will come, and they'll all be thrown into the Lake Of Fire, that's the real Hell. All they had to do was believe God and His word,no works will get you in only Faith,"It is by faith that we are saved and not by works,it is the gift of God lest any man try to boast"Paul said.(WE do good works BECAUSE we are saved not to get saved)

I've never read the whole thing, but Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy mentions a place on the outskirts of Hell called Limbo. Limbo is the resting place of the unbaptized and of righteous pagans. Atheists are presumably included. It is apparently quite a nice place, very similar to Earth.

The problem here is that an Atheist (as well as the rest of us) are not now alive on Earth, but we are dead in Hell. We dwell now in the world of the dead, in a world of forgetfulness where we know nothing, not even who we are, or from whence we came - or even why we're here.

God's giving away presents? Are they cool? Does this mean the Christian god will be trying to give ice-cream cones to those in hell but because they don't feel his "presence" they'll miss out?

Do you feel the same about being alive now than you did when you were 10 years old?

Then how can you imagine a person would feel the same when they have lived for 1000 years?
