Do you think this is creepy?

I have a friend who is really starting to creep me out. If I buy a purple shirt, she buys a purple shirt, I won't color my gray so she quit coloring her hair. 3yrs ago we moved into our house, 2months ago she and her husband bought a house in the same neighborhood. Today everytime I took my dog out, she was driving very slowly by my house in her golf car. I decided that I wanted an RV so I could travel with my husband, then all of the sudden she and her husband want to get one, her husbands work does not involve travel the way mine does. I told her I wanted to get contacts again and now she wants them, but I know she can't get them because of problems with her eyes. It is just that every time I want or do something, she has to do it to, not like she has to out do me, it's just because I do it. Like she wants to be me! I feel like she is stalking me!

It is really starting to creep me out!

Does it sound weird to anyone else or is it just me?

How do I make it stop?

Update:

We are sort of good friends, we do lunch almost every week. And my son says she knows exactly what she is doing. She wants to be me!

Yeah, I think that is really creepy.

I think she is trying to keep up with you. I don't know why people do this. I've not figured out the psychology of it. I wish I could - then I could have a real answer for you.

But, my sister has been doing the same thing. When she found out I was pregnant she had to get pregnant. Then, she decided she wanted the same stroller as me. Then, it was the carseat. Then, she wanted to do her room like me. Then, she wanted my hubby to make her shelves like he made me. Then, she wanted to name her baby, if it was a boy, after my grandpa JUST LIKE I HAD ALREADY NAMED MY SON!

Thank goodness she had a girl. Otherwise, it would be a very strained relationship. But, now it's hard...because my parents only want to be around her baby. They haven't been over to see my son since he was born. I take him there at least once a week. They don't even make an effort. And, I got (from a friend) an extra carseat base for my mom. So - I would save on gas (I live 20 miles away and gas is expensive for my SUV). But, I've not used it she carts my sister around in it. EEERRRGGG.

It's more than creepy the way people act. It's downright fustrating. I told my hubby I'm just going to really set the bar high. So high she can't reach. But, that's too mean and I"ll never follow through.

Kill the whore and dump her body in a river.

KIDDING! KIDDING! Ha ha. Yep, that's bizarre. You need to find a way to put some distance between the two of you. Start by not returning phone calls, screening yours, etc. She'll push at first, but you have to draw a line. Also, don't tell her anything about yourself. Or lie. Say you just bought a green shirt.

Look at it this way maybe your friend admires your taste and style and is trying to imitate your life. She may have some emotional problems that you are not aware of. Or it could be just plain old fashion jealousy. Thank god that she has a husband or she may want your husband also.

Woah, it's like that movie "Single White Female".

To get her to stop, here are some things you could do:

You could make up a person who is your 'role model' like an actress or some one that she doesn't know and can't freak out. Maybe she will start dressing like her instead of you.

You could tell her that you are going to do something really absurd, like get red colored contacts or dye your hair red and green, stuff that she would not do even if you did it. Even if it isn't permanent, hopefully she would start thinking you have bad taste!

She must have really low self esteem or doesn't like herself. Maybe you could pretend to start getting counseling and she will too.

Good luck, I hope I helped.

I thought this kind of thing stopped after high school.

Did you ever as her if she is aware she is doing it?

Why don't you try doing something fairly outrageous and embarrassing and see if she copies it? Put a horrible plastic statue of something on your lawn for a few days. The minute she puts one up, throw your in the garage.

It's not stalking, but she does seem to think that she has to compete with you. She may be envious of your life style. I doubt you can get her to stop but have you discussed the way you feel about it? What is her perception of the situation? I think you and she should talk. You may just have to live with her copy cat behaviour.

She really likes you, maybe too much. You could have a very close friend if you wanted. You might consider how that could be a good thing for you.

Maybe she likes your husband and want to get his attention by trying to be you.
