Diabetic cat?

No...I've heard the one about a pet will die if you touch it's nose or if you feed them chocolate. Although I think all three are myths, why would you be feeding your pet sweet stuff anyway?

If you are concerned then call your vet and ask.

Cats can get diabetes....and since an over-abundance of sugar is sometime responsible for causing diabetes in humans, I'd say the first part is true. Cats aren't supposed to be eating sweets, they're supposed to have meats and occasional greens.

As far as diabetes making their fur fall out, I don't know for sure....but diabetes is a serious illness and can cause all sorts of problems. So it's very possible.

What IS true is that diabetes is becoming very common for overweight cats. Some claim it is carbohydrate related (vs "sugar"), including such ingredients as corn found in cheaper dry cat food.

My aunt had a diabetic cat that was as wide as she was long (I swear this is true). Sad part is that probably could have been avoided had she been fed a normal healthy diet instead of constant treats of canned, dry and *kitten* food at an older, overweight condition. Almost as sad was the fact that the cat developed arthritis as well - can you imagine carrying all that weight???

Poor thing had to be rushed to the vet one night; she was comatose and gently kneading, but never woke up. It was the diabetes & she had to be put to sleep.

So please heed any advice about a healthy diet and a healthy weight for your cat....

Cats do not have the taste buds that respond to sweetness. This is probably not true, since the only reason that I can come up with as to why a cat would begin to lose fur is that it is not gaining proper nutrition from the food.

And anyway, if cats like something sweet, it is because of its texture, since they cannot actually taste the sweetness.

Why would you feed a cats sweets? Don't. Feed them cat food only.

It's a myth. Most cats won't eat sweet stuff anyway.
