west nile virus .........morale dilemna?
my neighbour is an older european lady, very set in her ways, speaks little english. she keeps a plastic garbage can at the eavestrough of her garage to catch rain water to water her plants
I have hinted towards her relatives in the past that she shouldn't do this, however I was told that she will never change her ways
should I call the west nile hotline (in Canada, I see tv commercials about this all the time) and have them check into it, or just mind my own business
from the tv commercials I see, this is high time for mosquito breeding, and they breed in standing water and I have a 3 yr old boy that plays in our yard, just 20 or so feet from this standing water hazard
what should I do???

If she will not listen to anyone, then you have to be the one to protect the 3 yr old child. You may lose a friendly neighbor, but you may save the neighborhood.

Unfortunately, you really can't do anything about this if it is on her property. She has the right to collect rain water to water if she wishes. If you are concerned, you should apply an insect repellent containing DEET on your child when they play outdoors. If you were really concerned about West Nile virus, you would be putting this on your child when they go out anyway!

Call the authorities, maybe they have someone who could speak her language and explain the hazzard she is causing to others and herself, she may not know of the danger if she does not understand the adverts on tv.

I would call the proper authorities for the sake of that 3 year old and everybody else for that matter.

Just toss a couple of mosquito killer tablets into the container when she's not around. It won't harm her plants, and you won't get mosquitoes in your yard...

You should definetely go ahead and call. If anyone's safety is involved, it should not matter whether or not she wants to change her ways; she needs to.
