the Suda (or alternatively Suidas, is a massive 10th century Byzantine Greek historical encyclopedia of the ancient Mediterranean world) is one such source, which also tells the story of Hypatia rebuffing a suitor by throwing sanitary napkins at him. However, this account is not altogether reliable..

I know that Hypatia is a pagan martyr, murdered by Christians by refusing to convert.

    This was quite common then.

I don't know what she did though to discourage an amorous student.

She picked up and threw Tampon, the young man's teacher, at him. Hence the myth of the sanitary napkin. Hypatia was a sturdy one.
