dvd recorder\vcr - "+" or "-"?

i want to buy a dvd recorder\vcr - i don't know whether to get a "+" or a "-". I read that the "-" format is more compatible but the guy in Curry's was telling me the "+" format is best as the "-" are being phased out. My laptop has a "-" DVD. I want to use it to transfer videos to DVD (obviously) but I also want to transfer camcorder tapes to DVD.

I bought a panasonic dmr-es15. It records on -r -rw +r +rw dvd-ram, and dual layer, plays divx movies, cd and mp3. Some recorders have a hard disk built in, and if you can afford it, it's well worth it, because there are always programs that will go longer than one dvd, unless you use the lower quality. You might want to program it when you're away, and with a built in hard disk you can fit more hours, without needing to change dvds.

  • Well i would disagree because the most used format is the - discs. But you can get ones where they do both - and + formats. If you are recording onto video mode - It gives you the option to choose - then they will playback onto any dvd player anywhere

Depends on your discs really, but currys talk a lot of crap to get the sale. You'd be best getting on e that does + and - in my opinion. The quality is no different.
