i have had 4 miscarriages is there anything i should be looking for?

I had the same problem (except I have only had two miscarriages & both ended at or around 7 weeks). Anyways, I requested to know why I was having miscarriages & my doctor did some bloodwork (took 22 vials to run 15 different test) & they found that I have a Mild Enzymes Mutation so I'm on Prenatals now everyday & I also have a Thyroid problem which they think is the main problem, so I'm on 50mcg of Synthroid. They think that should take care of the problem. I never had a Thyroid problem until after my first miscarriage & it isn't that bad of a problem, but yet it can still cause the miscarriages if left untreated.

So just call your doctor & ask for a work up. They are suppose to test you after your third unless you do what I did & request it after your second one.

Has your OB suggested taking progesterone? I had a miscarriage my first pregnancy. I had a D&C at 9 weeks. It took me 8 months after that to conceive again. During that time, my OB was trying to find out why I wasn't conceiving. He did a laparoscopy and a biopsy of my uterus. He discovered that I had a luteal phase defect, which means my uterus lining doesn't get thick enough to sustain a pregnancy. I was already taking 100 mg./day of progesterone to help prevent a miscarriage, but the biopsy showed that wasn't enough. He increased my dosage to 200 mgs/day. I had to take it from day 16 of my cycle until my next period or until the end of my first trimester if I got pregnant. I got pregnant the very next month and had a full term healthy baby girl. Since then I know two people that have also been prescribed progesterone. It's too soon to know if they've conceived. Good luck.

I had a molar pregnancy also. What that means is that there really IS no baby; your body kind of tricked itself into believing it was pregnant. There is tissue in the uterus but it isn't a baby. Of course, YOU still feel that you've lost a baby, which is all that matters. Once you get pregnant, they could check to be sure your HCG levels are progressing as they should. This was one of the earliest signs that something was wrong with my situation. This is accomplished by blood tests. They could also do an early sonogram, of course. A trans-vaginal one would be good. As far as before you get pregnant, I'm not really sure what they could do, other than checking to make sure you don't have an incompetant cervix or a lot of scar tissue. Both of these can prevent a successful or full-term pregnancy.

I agree with you., do not wait until you get pregnant again its just like history repeating itself. Miscarriages can cause alot of complications if you dont nip it in the butt now., I advise you to go and get tested to find out why your having all of these miscarriages. It can be alot of things seek a professional's opinion and then work from there. Whateva your feeling, whateva is that your thinking to yourself about ( you know the why questions) write them down on a piece of paper, by the time you go back to the doctor you will notice that you have wriiten down a sufficent amount of questions.. There is still hope for u. I had 4 miscarriages myself before finally giving birth to my daughter. My doc ran every test imaginable on me and found nothing after the first one but they just kept happening. After my last one my doc told me the same thing.....to wait. I didn't and the result is now 3 with curly blonde hair and beautiful blue eyes. Just hang in there, i know how painful a miscarrage is. I just kept telling myself there was something wrong with the baby, that's why my body rejected the baby. It will happen for u...... have faith. And another thing.......there is nothing u can do to prevent a miscarrage........ nothing a doc can do....... except hope and pray.........

I might consider speaking with a high risk/perinatologist and see if they can offer some insight. I had 5 miscarriages, but they were due to elevated prolactin levels. Your miscarriages seem to be different, so a specialist might be in order-good luck and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry for your losses. Share your concern with your doctor and ask if there is anything you can do or that he can do to help the pregnancy be a viable one. Have you had genetic testing done?

definitely get another doctor!! most doctors wait until your 3rd consecutive miscarriage not your 5th miscarriage before investigating. tubal scarring is something to look for, blocked tubes as well, don't forget stress is a factor as well.

there are conditions that could cause this, after my first miscarriage i asked the doc what was wrong with me and she said after 3 miscarriages they'll start investigating. one i remember that was mentioned was lupus. get a good o.b. and they'll start testing.

SO sorry for your losses....Please go to a Dr. who will test your "Progesterone". Demand that they test it... you pay for these darn appointments they need to look deeper !! If this Progesterone is LOW, it is definitely one reason women miscarry !! most general Dr.'s dont even think of testing for this so please bring it up to them!
