A Question for Christians: Why do you believe Mary was chosen to be Jesus' mother?

I believe that from the beginning of time, God was perfecting his design for the Blessed Virgin Mary.

In the old Testament, God gave us the archetype of the Ark of the Covenant (in which was kept the Ten Commandments, the Manna, and the Staff of Aaron). God was said to dwell in the Ark.

In the new Testament, God gave us the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Ark of the New Covenant (Jesus dwelt in her womb).

At her conception from her mother Anne (the Immaculate Conception), God kept her from any stain of Original Sin. She stayed pure throughout her life and did not sin through the Grace of God. At the Annunciation, St. Gabriel the Archangel appeared to her to announce the Incarnation. Mary freely submitted to God's will (the opposite of how Eve disobeyed God's will).

What I mean by all this is that Mary wasn't just chosen out of the blue or because she was well behaved or because she was in the right place at the right time. From the very beginning, God specifically designed her to be Jesus' Mother. She is God's masterpiece, the most blessed and glorious of all God's Creations.

First off, I think we can not and will not ever be able to fully understand the inscrutable depths of God's wisdom and reasoning. However, the scriptures say that she was a humble woman and she realy felt ready to give herself up in order to serve God with all her heart.

"My spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior, For he has looked at the humble state of his handmaid" (Luke 1:47-48a)

Humble servents/handmaids are forever the favourite chosen vessels of God.

If you follow the geneology, you will find that both she and Joseph were in the proper bloodline of the kings and the priesthood. She was chosen prophetically.

    1. she was humble

    2. she was chaste

    3. she was of the lineage of David

    4. she was of the tribe of Judah

    5. she was devout

However, if she had said, "no way!" to the angel of God, then God would have chosen another with the same attributes. (not that God needed her permission anyway)
