Question about birdhouse gourds?
I am growing some gourds to use for birdhouses, these are the first that I have ever grown. My question is am I suppose to pull them off of the vine green or let them dry on the vine and then pull them?

Harvest them when the vine dies out, you will have to clean the outside with bleach water as there is a outer layer that will mold and get flakey, it will take them awhile to dry out, and to my knowledge there is no way to keep them from molding it is part of the drying process....next spring drill the holes for the birds and clean out the seeds.

You have to let them dry on the vine, or harvest when the vine dies out. Be sure when you make the birdhouses to drill holes in the top for ventilation and holes in the bottom for drainage.
By the way, the mold patterns on the outside look really cool, especially when sealed. Beautiful. And save the seeds from the best ones to plant next year.
