How can you be diagnosed with body dysmorphic disorder?

where would you go?

i know the symptoms about it and everything, i just want to know if there is an actual place that you can officially be diagnosed.

    a psychologist since its a recognized mental disorder in the DSM IV

    if the two sides of you body don't match that is it. Stand sideways in front of a mirror. Cover the left side of you face and use the mirror to create a mirror duplicate of you right side of the face. if it looks vaguely the same you are OK. Repeat with the right side covered. If that still looks like the other side you are OK. If the mirrored views look very different you have that "problem." it is not a big deal anyway since no one is perfectly symmetrical.

    The preoccupation of imagenary defects can impair a persons personal, social and work life. They may get more and more plastic surgery and are often depressed.

    this is associated with obsessive compulsive behavior.....if you are constantly preoccupied with some real or imagined inperfection of any part of your body particularly your face...i.e. you keep poking at your face to get rid of imagined wrinkles or marks... etc....ask a friend for an objective judgement of your appearance....you may look better than you think.
