What does it mean on a message board when a post says, "Sticky"?

I know this is probably an incredibly dumb question, but I really don't know. Thanks for your help!

On message boards, as the new messages are posted, the old messages roll off the first page. Sticky messages always stay at the top of the first page.

Sticky messages are usually used by the moderators to post announcements or keep on some important post(s).

A "Sticky" post is a post which stays at the top of the thread list. It does not go down under other posts with time (besides under other stickies) like normal threads do

it's a post which has been 'pinned' to the top of a messageboard because it gives useful information to members which should be easily accessible - for example the rules of the website may be a 'sticky'.
