1999 ford escort 2.0 when the outside air is in the 20's the heater barely puts out enough heat to clear the

windshield and the gauge shows low also, yet when the air is in the 30's or higher everything works fine. whats up

    It is possible that your coolant mixture isn't right. Usually if it is too high or too low then it will make a difference. Usually a 50/50 mix is substantial. Check that first. Then check to see if your thermostat is open and closing properly. It could be that that there is trash some where in the air ducts leading up to the dash not allowing enough heat to come thru. You may need to adjust your coolant level. Also your coolant fan or coolant switch on the radiator isn't working.

    I would go with the coolant mixture first.

    some thing like this got here approximately to my ninety 3. The heater center actually sprung a leak. I leaked coolant out the middle. examine in and around the heater center for a leak. in line with possibility try via-passing the middle and notice if the automobile nonetheless overheats. The capilarries in those automobiles weren't very enormous the two. They get clogged by the years. you would be able to wish a good radiator/cooling device flush. some thing pressurized to get the gunk out and permit greater flow of coolant.
