Why should the U.S. give the U.N. $5 Million a day to fund a forum for anti-Americans radical thugs to speak ?

Why should Americans cough up $1.3 Billion a year to get insulted ? Do you think it's time we leave of the U.N. ?

Update:

Brainstorm,

Resolution 1441 was passed by all UN members overwhelmingly confirming Iraq & its possession of WMD.

Saddam Hussein had it coming. He has no one to blame but himself. This thug sure did a good job of bluffing his neighboring countries & fooling the whole world that it had WMD, when in fact he had none.

Update 2:

John J,

President never used the term "Axis of Evils" in the UN forum. It was mentioned in a State of the Union address to the nation.

Check your facts.

The U/N are a bunch of ungreatful assholes,

I don't think the U.S should have to give the U.N pocket money.

The UN was not created to be a forum for the US to get its way. The UN is a forum for all world leaders to be treated equally. Thus if Bush can get up there and call Iran, etc. the "Axis of Evil", the Iranian president can get up there and call America evil.

If the US were to leave, there would be a number of problems:

    1) Without our funding, the UN couldn't even attempt to monitor many of the areas that need to be monitored, etc.

    2) We would then have to act unilaterally on all of our international issues. This would turn much of the world against our policies (as if Bush hasn't done a good enough job of that) and cause numerous other ramifications.

If we used our funding as blackmail to get the UN to do our wishes, it would have the same effect as issue 2, just not directly. Most nations already consider the actions of the UN to be just an indirect action of the US, this would only further that belief and instead of just removing our ability to act in the world, it would remove the UN's ability to act in the world.

When we didn't join the League of Nations, Hitler was able to do the things he did. If we weren't a part of the UN, another one will likely be able to as well.

In response to namsaev, how would the UN delegates get anything done while dodging bullets in the places you are talking about sending them to?

What would that much office space cost in NYC? Are they paying anything? That should be all they get and untilities NOT included. I think the UN should be totally mobile and only meet in trouble spots. Right now Darfur and Baghdad are the two best candidates.

How does the UN expect to come up with the answers to the problem unless the delegates see the problem first hand. Right now they go to NewYork where they can get anything they need (and much they don't need) and never feel threatened.

Send the UN, lock, stock, and barrel to Baghdad and you don't get to leave until you have solved the problem. *LOL* Bet we'd see some action. And you'd find out who REALLY was interested is solving problems. They would be the ones that showed up.

It is definitely time to, at least threaten to, leave the UN. The USA provides something like 22% of all funding to the UN. So if the USA even threatened to leave, the UN would agree to do things the way we wanted, just to keep our money!

We should not . The U.S. has done more for the poor than any other country - yet it's those very countries who want to destroy our way of life and our freedom . If the liberal democrats have their way-we will all be socialists and communists-or WORSE..

Just look who their new hero is ? Hugo Chavez -who is running his own economy into the ground-and worse -yet he is being embraced by democrats , because he is walking their walk and talking their talk .

Without US support, the UN will be finished. Sort of like the League of Nations before WW1

Worse yet the ones doing the insulting are not current on their UN dues. We need out of that liberal US and Jew hating institution.

I don't think they should be. I would need more data regarding leaving the UN or not.
