I've been a member of a number of online services. I find that online dating services are becoming more like "in person" dating, with webcams and instant messaging, mimicking in person interactions.

I find that some sites are really restrictive on interaction with members, case in point, eharmony. The moral being you select someone based on compatibility & interests than solely sex appeal or being untrue to yourself. It's so formal and rigid, it loses it's fun. I tend to like online dating services with member interaction.

I've had profile on lesser known websites, specializing in men attracted to larger women. Below are my observations:

    (1) Sex-Seekers

If casual sex doesn't appeal to you, you might be turned off to know some guys are using the internet to meet for sex.

    (2) Actors

These are guys that enhance their profile information excessively (occupation, income, photos) to ultimately obtain what they want-- admiration, sex, money, or anything that benefits them. (b) The guys that sound like they want a long term relationship through profile text yet their actual personality is a polar opposite from the sweet guy they portray.

    (3) Minimalist

Some guys don't really write much about themselves on their profiles, and expect basic demographics & a picture to make ya go weak at the knees. It's not enough sometimes. Or worse, contact from a pictureless member(personal pet peeve).

Although those are my observations for guys are at those sites, I am sure every online dating service has a few (or several).

I still believe online dating services can be a means to meeting people. Call me naive, but I would like to think it's possible to meet the guy of my dreams online. As in other spots for meeting a potential boyfriend, physical attraction, personality, and compatibility determine the success of meeting in person.
