Alternatives for cooking Minute Rice ???

I'm not looking for meal recipes, just a way to jazz up the rice with flavor and spices. Instead of using plain water, what can I add or substitute with? What spices or seasonings can be added during cooking, not after?

Update:

GREAT answers so far..............keep them coming.

Add in some liquid and spices, such as,

For an Italian spin: cook the rice in chicken broth, add in a dash of Italian seasoning blend, a dash of dried garlic, and some dried onion, when just about re hydrated add in a tablespoon of grated cheese (Parmesan or Romano). .

For a Mexican spin: cook the rice in a the contents of a can of Rotel (juice and tomatoes) add in water or tomato juice if more liquid is needed. If you want you can add in some cooked ground beef that will take it more to an entree that can be served with a salad.

    Other add ins:

Cook in any broth (chicken, veg table, or beef) add in any flavor of Mrs. Dash salt free seasonings, Merril's seasoning, or crazy salt flavor blend. Then toss in dried onion.

Other add ins include flavored olive oils, most any grated hard cheese, a tablespoon (or more) of a flavored tomato paste, chopped roasted red bell peppers, just take a look in your refrigerator and spice rack. Also, I look at the offerings in the ready boxed rice mixes aisle and get some ideas there. If you make up your own you will save money and you can decide how much spice and salt you want to use. You can also put in a can of pinto, northern, or black beans - I like the Glory sensibly seasoned variety - - they are already spiced and the beans and rice dishes are really good and family friendly.

    Good luck.

  • Hello, there is one recipe my family likes.

Mushroom rice. Really easy. All you need is a can of Cream of Mushroom soup ( Campells soup.) Make soup as directed. We use water instead of milk. However I have done half water half milk sometimes.

When soup is boiling remove from heat and add 2 cans of the rice.

Let it sit until rice is done in about a 5 mins. If you want wetter rice use less rice.

We have this as a side dish with many of our meals. Goes with everything. =) enjoy

Instead of water, use any kind of broth (e.g. chicken, beef or vegetable). After cooking, you can stir a little butter in to make it richer/creamer. What spices/herbs you add depends on what type of meat you're serving the rice with. If you're serving it with a baked chicken, you can cook it with chicken broth then add a little tarragon and parsley when it's finished cooking.

Use any liquid. Depends on whether you are going for sweet or savory. Pineapple juice with crushed pineapple bits (drained and dried well and added after the rice is finished absorbing the juice), is a fav of kids, who don't really go for plain white rice.

Any kind of broth. Flavor your rice with anything.

as you are cooking minute rice you can first get some wild rice and cook it almost done then add the minute to it and you add whatever seasonings you like it you now have a complete different dish with wild rice...

My kids love chocolate rice which complements pork chops and green beans. Just add sugar and cocoa powder or chocolate syrup to taste but don't add too much so it's runny.
