The boss said I left the computer on before I left the office one day and now he has my password and checks my e mail! But I don't believe this I think he has installed some type of spy ware mail, on the office computers, can he then steal the key strokes or how would he do this? Is it legal? Thanks for yur help, oh is there some way around this that I can stop him?

I believe it is completely ok and legal for a company to monitor what it's employee is doing while using the company pc during the work hour.

You can use the company pc, phone for your own personal usage but keep in mind that the company has the right to access and remain records of what you do.

Now, I don't know you boss represent the company or his/her personal interests to monitor/ spy on you. That is a different story.

I doubt you can do anything to stop him due to the fact that you are using company properties at work.

Unless you proved that he stole your password and other secure information and impersonalize you.

For example, you do your personal online banking at work. And then he uses the information collected and check on your bank account. Then it is hell illegal.

Bottomline, don't use company computers for personal use.

First question...is it the company e-mail account, or one like Yahoo or MSN mail or one of those Internet e-mail accounts?

And it doesn't really matter...what matters is...Their Internet use policy, if there is one...and also that it's your company's computer...anything on it and that come in and goes out over their network is the property of the company. And as long as the software is legal he is using, he can install and track whatever he (or she) wants. Now, if the boss is using illegal software, than the boss is at risk for that, but any data on the computer is the property of the company. As for stopping him...it sounds like you are doing something at work you should not be doing.

Even then....if you break the rules...it's a risk....a risk that you must be willing to make.

Legally, your boss and complete and total access to your work PC. It is his (or the company's) PC after all. Passwords, etc. do not work. The network admin can see and record absolutely everything that you do. Spyware, as such, is not needed, they already have full access to your machine. I am the boss at work and I have full admin rights to every system. I don't bother looking, but I could easily and legally do it. Nothing you do in the office if private and you have no right to keep it private. Act accordingly.

it is possible that he stole all of your passwords with a keylogger... a keylogger records everything you type in a special location on your computer that you can't find...if you search for it you won't find it b/c it's like a hidden hidden file...he can get to the software by typing in a command in the RUN program...my suggestion is that you change all your passwords now and then find the password by downloading a free copy on your home computer and use the password on your work computer to delete the program..or change or passwords and don't get back onto them at work

no, you can't stop him unless you change your passwords and do a complete scan of the computer. but chances are you are using a company computer. If you are using the company computer, yu have no rights. you shouldn't be using it for anything besides business anyhow. if they've given you permission otherwise then change the password and look in programs for anything that looks new and odd, then google it to find out what it does.

If they are business computers, then anything on them is subject to the boss' scrutiny. You should be doing your work and not creating emails that you feel the need to hide. Do your personal correspondence at home and stop playing on the boss' time and company equipment.

    sure he can..

if this is your boss i would recoment finding a new work...

its legal, i thinks so,,,its his place..so he can always say that he checks for spy and legal content ,,so he will not get sued,,

i heard some stuff about this kind of sxxxxt...

try to use different email , like gmail/hotmail/yahoo... for private issues.

Privacy law , if you boss hack in to your account you can have him / her , but remember you can only use the net on your own time not on working time

see if changing the password would help you?

if not, ask your system administrator to run a 'spyware check' and remove your spyware.

    else, call the cops
