I have never had a tooth filled, what can I expect as far as pain after the procedure is done?

The amount of pain that you will feel afterwards will depend on the depth of the cavity. If they have to fill close to the nerve then you can expect a dull ache for several days to a week afterwards. If it is a small filling you sould be fine in about a day. You will not be able to chew on the filled side for 24 hours. Your dentist will probably tell you to take ibuprofen if you are in pain.

Don't worry honey its not that bad don't be so scared. Usually the dentist will put some ambesol around the spot that he is going to numb you up at. Once you are numb he will shoot you with Novocaine and you won't be able to feel him even filling the tooth. Don't worry it will be over before you know it. I used to be terrified of the dentist too. If you can't handle the pain ask them to give you gas and you will get a buzz while he is filling your tooth and you won't even know that he did it because it will be over that fast. You don't have to worry, as modern dentistry has made the whole procedure pretty easy. Your gum will be frozen, so you won't feel anything during the filling. After the procedure is over, your lip may be numb for a while but once the novocaine wears off, you won't feel anything. Just a suggestion -- take along a favorite tape to listen to while he's doing the work.

hey i had a tooth filled in ot to long ago and it did not hurt at all! See they give you this gas you fill like you are floating it feels cool! Any way your tooth will feel cold a little during the procedure but it doesn't hurt at all! They tell you know chewy stuff. So wait about a month and you can chew gum eat skittles or whatever it won't hurt it. Just chew it on the other side as much as possible. Well hope i could help

Hey, dont be scared! If your just filling a cavity there is really no pain afterwards, and even during the procedure because they freeze the area prior to filling it. If you do have some pain, take one or two advils and you shall not feel anything. I know its scary, thats because you do not know what to expect. Bring some music, helps! Good luck!

You will be surprised how little pain is involved in having a filling done. The Novicain shot is a little stinging sensation, for the most part, and will probably be the most uncomfortable part of the whole deal. Then again, it will depend on what part of the mouth you need the shot. The farther back, the less sensation. Good luck, it is no big deal.

To be totally honest with you, it shouldn't hurt a bit after the procedure is done. I have never had any problems after fillings. Only when my cheek starts to get feeling back in it, then it is just a tingly feeling. Don't stress honestly!

Most people have minor problems and are back to normal within 2-3 weeks. I have heard about people having seizures and also bleeding to death. I would suggest asking the dentist to prescrible you some sort of laughing gas and maybe ask if he can hit you with it again before you drive home. If you do have any problems just remember, it will all be over soon.

Not a problem. You get novacaine to deaden the area. You won't feel a thing. Just make sure you close your eyes when the needle goes in to deaden the gums. It does not hurt just looks scary.

If you have any fear about it tell the dentist. They work on you differently then.

There is very little pain after the procedure, it's during the procedure that it may hurt. Ask for a local anesthetic for that. But I haven't had a cavity in 40 years. It may be better now.
