The premise is incorrect.
The Iraq war was initially about stopping Saddam Hussein from conquering the Middle East after he sent tanks into Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Saddam was militarily driven back then granted a temporary cease-fire in which he had the opportunity to show that he was willing to change his ways.
Saddam spent the next decade defying and deceiving the inspectors whose job it was to ensure he was complying.
So, the cease-fire was called off.
Now, we are helping Iraq's legitimately elected government to prevent terrorists from seizing control of the country like they did in Afghanistan during the 1990s.
We are no longer fighting against Iraq. We are helping Iraq fight its enemies, who happen to be Islamist terrorists.
Source(s): During war, those companies working to aid the war effort make money. That's the way it should be. Bill Clinton established the exclusive relationship with the Pentagon and Halliburton during the Kosovo war in the early 1990s. Our troops are still in Kosovo and Halliburton is still making money by doing necessary work there, too. - Anonymous1 decade ago
I don't think the war is all about money.
Some companies will always profit from war.
Like the companies who make bombs, munitions uniforms, military vehicles and the ones that provide goods and service in the war theatre.

I think it is about securing the oil the world (Russia, China) will need in the future so the U.S. oil companies will stay rich as long as possible. Also political gain. Iran is next, the Eisenhower fleet is moving to Iran right now.

if you remember, both germany and france were totally against the initial invasion. however, once it was completed, both germany and france were at the front of the line demanding they be allowed access to iraqi oil and the rebuilding the country. they were not wanting to be there, until the opportunity to make money was available
