What materials is the Great Wall of China made of?

I'm doing a research project, and I've looked all over, and nothing I've found has touched on this. If you know, then I'd appreciate your input. Thanks.

Update:

I am looking for a little more. Great answers so far, but was there also a metal such as bronze added to make it stronger?

Update 2:

lol. Great theory on special alien materials. Thanks. I never really considered that before. And we also have someone who's touching the wall right now? Do you know I'm also asking this question from the great wall? Of course, I'm using my laptop. lol!

yeah, at first (in the state of Chu , 656BC) the great wall was built by earth and stone, the later dynasties consolidated again and again. Till the Ming Dynasty they built it with brick, stone and rammed earth.

Mainly stone with a mortar made from mud and straw. It's long enough that they kinda had to improvise with what materials were close by certain sections, but it's stone (I've been there). Check wikipedia for more help with a research project.

  • Most people don't know it but space aliens provided material for the wall so it's some sort of extraterrestrial composite material. That's why it has lasted so long.

It is made out of stone and bricks from the hills. Some quarries are from nearby stone resourviers.

Your research skills need refining. It took me 4 seconds to find the detailed answer, probably more than you need:

It'd have to be porphyry stone. Igneous rock. Only thing that'll hold up over time, attack, fire, cannon fire and shot. That was the whole idea.
