Should I use the juice from pokeweed berries to dye my goat's fur purple?

I don't know how people will view a purple goat, but I'm dying to find out.

Update:

Ripe pokeweed berries are poisonous when in their green unripened state, but they lose the poison when they turn purple. They don't taste good to humans, but birds eat them sometimes. Pokeweed stems and roots are poisonous, and the bigger leaves are, too. The little leaves aren't poison, though, and people sometimes eat them as "poke salat."

Update 2:

My wording was clumsy. I should have said that UNRIPENED GREEN pokeweed berries are poisonous, but RIPE PURPLE pokeweed berries are not, or at least not much.

Update 3:

The pokeweed berries I'd use are growing just on the other side of the fence around the goat pasture. They grew wild there, and they are very convenient for me to use.

Update 4:

scout485 yeh you're right, the pokeweed juice seems to wear off in a couple of weeks. But that's long enough to show Sevdi to show the neighbors how a purple goat looks. And it could be her Halloween costume. (She gets some special treats like wheat bread, carrot and banana as trickertreat candy.)

I think the dye from poke berries is water soluble and can't be fixed very well, so it might do for a one-time dye for the goat and he doesn't have to suffer through the humiliation for TOO long! Cheers!

P.S. I live in the country too, and it is sometimes hard to find fun stuff to do; but having a goat must make it more interesting anyway!

You might want to try kool aid instead, It will wash out eventually and it has more color options. Just heat it up in some water, (no sugar obviously, just the powder) And put it on the the fur when it gets cool enough not to burn. My aunt taught me how to dye my hair like this when I was a kid, my parents didn't appreciate it much though. Personally, if you don't hurt or scare the goat at all, you may as well dye its fur.... sounds like fun.

if you have blonde hair it will naturally get bleached by the actual sun in the summer. There had been this guy in my class who also had golden blonde hair that has been a medium brown near the bottom. When he came back to college after summer vacation, it was practically platinum blonde!

You really need to find a hobbie. You have NOTHING better to do then dye your goat purple to see how people will react to it?

Okay sorry, I read your profile and NOW I understand. You live in the mountains. Okay now I understand more on why you want to dye your goat purple but really......WHO'S gonna see him (or her)??

The reason why is everyone with blond, why cannot you just have jet black hair with some blonde or blonde hair with some jet black hair. Now you don't have to choose.

Would make a nice hue. All natural, too. I used it once to dye some socks, doesn't last well though.
