Which baseball player said something like "Base ball has been very very good to me.?

Don't say garrett morris> I think there was someone who really said it before Sat. Nite Live.

Roberto Clemente said it, but he used only one "very". I'm assuming that's where Garrett Morris got it.

    Chico Esquela

In his retirement speech, Lou Gherig said something close to that, when he said "I'm the luckiest man on the face of the earth". Very emotive, since he was quitting because of a very peculiar disease that would kill him in the following months.

Whitey Herzog once said, "Baseball has been good to me . . . since I quite trying to play it" but that would have been after the SNL skit. I think the SNL writers get credit for this one.

sorry...no one said that before garret morris....

he was making fun of cuban baseball players in general...not a specific player
