Does the expression "Age of Aquarius" have biblical connotations?

With this 21st Century the notion of a better future, a better millennium, is gaining popularity. A principal belief is that modern society as we know it will be replaced by a Utopian society. According to New Age teachers, this will be accomplished by radically changing conventional thinking through mystical knowledge that has been hidden or ignored until recent years. They say that this new era of harmony will unleash human potential and will usher in universal spiritual peace.

This hope seems to be based primarily on the predictions of astrologers who point to our day as the threshold between the passing age of Pisces and the coming age of Aquarius. Proponents of this theory claim that the zodiacal sign of Pisces has had a negative effect on mankind for almost 2,000 years. They point the finger at Christendom as the principal culprit in the creation of a materialistic and backward society. Christendom is accused of hindering the progress of truth. But today that truth can purportedly be found in the occult and will be made clear during the impending age of Aquarius, the age of spiritual enlightenment, the new age.

This idea is not found in the Bible. However, Matthew 24 does pinpoint our era as the end of a system of things.

The Messianic Kingdom of which Christians have prayed for, will then administer affairs on earth, which will be brought to its foretold Paradise condition. Mankind will be freed from sickness and death, and the dead will be resurrected to life on earth. These are the delightful prospects awaiting those who recognize the sign of the times. Would it not be the wise course to learn more about that realistic hope rather than the unaccomplishable efforts of man?

Yes, sort of. Christianity was the new age religion of the dawn of the age of Pisces. There are celestially prophesied events related to the "end of the age". The end of the age of Pisces is the dawn of the age of Aquarius.

These 'ages' are astronoimical ages related to the precession of the equinox through the various constellations. A new age happens roughly every 2000 years.

The Mayan calendar recognized these same ages, and shows their "official" transition from Pisces to Aquarius as Dec, 2012.

That said, modern Christians vehemently deny any relationship between pagan mysticism and Christianity, but from an unbiased secular perspective, the link is simply undeniable.
