Whats with people thinking public schools are so great?

Why do people think that public schools are preparing kids for the 'real world'?The real world does not consist of people stuck in crowded rooms with other people the same age for 8 hours a day,nor does it consist of people getting beatup after work for wearing glasses.this is not the real world. Also, whats wrong with home schooling?okay,so public school kids get to sit around with other kids the same age, without being allowed to talk to eachother, for the majority of the day. oh wow.Home schoolers can actually interact to different people, instead of just teachers, principals, and bulleys. Now,being beat up doesen't help kids prepeare for the real world either.Whoever thinks that is oviously never been bulleyed,or is a bulley.Do you think that geeks(kids with huge glasses and retaners)are going to look back at they're school years with fondness, and be able to tell they're kids how nice public school is? no.Kids who get picked on get they're spirits crushed and beaten.

When I chose to homeschool my daughters, it was out of concern for their academic education when public schools had become so poor in the basics.

Now I have a second concern: Safety. I'm hard put to think it is the best answer to place your children in classrooms where another student is carrying a gun, a knife, drugs, etc. We tried public school again when my older daughter was in 7th grade. The first week of school she was offered marijuana several times and two boys tried to burn the school down in the middle of the school day! This was the BEST Jr. High in town and people fought to get in.

She got straight A's the first quarter, including honors classes. Instead of being congratulated on a great report card, she was laughted at, teased, called names, etc. By the end of the semester, she was begging me to homeschool again. By the end of that semester, I was more than willing!

By the way; few parents realize how many arms are carried into school and how much drugs. They think it's the other kids, the school in the bad part of town, etc. I worked at a juvenile detention center and locked up so many kids who attended any and all of the local schools... and they almost all carried weapons into school on a regular basis. Once in a while they were caught... but for the most part they weren't. They usually got locked up for burglaries or something. Only once in a while did something happen at school, but when it did, it wasn't pretty. The idea that my child would be sitting next to a kid with a handgun or knife on him, who is likely strung out on drugs and out of control is frightening.

Tell the parents who lost children in the school shootings how wonderful it is to send your children to school. It has become an epidemic.

My daughter has chosen to homeschool my grandaughter and I couldn't be happier!

Wonderful question. I think most people who say it's so great will only say it's so great when confronted with the idea of homeschooling. People have been complaining for years and years and years about the public school system and now that people are taking their children's education into their own hands, it's, "Oh, well, but being around kids the same age all the time is important for development." Which is a bunch of pseudo-psychological nonsense spoken by people who have not taken courses in child development or psychology. All the criticisms go out the window in defense of the choice or requirement to keep their children in public school.

On the flip side, no two people will look at the same thing the same way. There are those who look at public schools and see them as dreadful and others who will look upon the same public schools as great places. Sometimes people just have to agree to disagree.

Pros & Cons Private School: The schooling isn't larger than in public university. In truth, it's quite cut back than public university. The surroundings is worse as good as conduct. In personal colleges, so much individuals have plenty of cash from their dad and mom they usually use the money to shop for alcohol and medicinal drugs. The individuals are relatively snobby and unrealistic. A lot of superficial caught up individuals who're very impolite. The well factor approximately personal colleges is that it appears larger in tuition, and the schooling is simpler. That method it is not tough to elevate/hold nice grades. Public School: The majority of the general public university schooling has an "I do not care approximately whatever" angle. Because of this, plenty of pupils don't take the categories severely. It will also be tough to pay attention and take paintings severely whilst no person round you is both. A lot of individuals are ungrateful and are impolite to academics. The studying revel in, nonetheless, is relatively valued at it. It demanding situations you, however that's provided that you set the hassle. Home School: The finest factor approximately house education is the freedom. You have the freedom of waking up at some thing time you favor and you do not ought to post with snobby or impolite individuals. The unhealthy factor is that there's little or no social existence, if any.

Yes, I have been to public school. I've been to lots of them and so have my children. I'm sorry to say that they are all the same! It doesn't matter which one you go to there's going to be bullies and idiots and some teachers that dont really care. And as far as people coming in here saying we shouldn't be homeschooling because we spelled a word wrong or forgot a comma....give me a break! Public schools have been known for graduating kids that can't even read!! In the state I live in now 50% of the population is illiterate. It's no wonder I chose to keep my kids home! Besides, I don't know how many times I had PS teachers ask me how to spell a word because they weren't sure. Some of you people are great examples of what's wrong with public schools.

well first of all not every school is like you are describing. i recomend that every child go to public school or work, some way that they can be around/ deal with a wide variety of people for at least a year before they graduate high school. And i dont' know why everyone thinks homeschooling is soo weird, it's the best thing that ever happened to me. I wouldn't have been able to graduate a yr early if i was still in public school.

Public schools absolutely suck. You, see, my family is Christian and I was in public school for a few years. I had 0 problems with people making fun of me, but I didn't belong, exactly. I lived a "sheltered life"; my dad is a pastor, no secular music; I was raised completely old-fashioned andI see nothing wrong with it. By old fashioned I mean like"yes ma'am, no ma'am etc... Not clothes or style. But anything overly revealing or tight is a huge no way! My parents also completely overreacted on many issues such as dating. My dad always begged my mom to homeschool and she (and continues to) refused. I must say however that tiny private schools are an excellent option and there is one in my area, which I go to, I hope it will stay tiny because it is perfect that way. And they are an excellent option should you need one for a religion and socialization standpoint. But I will say that my children, and that is far off, I'm still in high school, in a private school, I must add, will NEVER go to a public school. Now all you public schools teachers ,I'm not syaing you're doing a bad job, in fact there are many teachers that do excelllent jobs, but I will refuse to send any of my children to a public school.

I was one of those poor, geeky kids you were talking about. I wanted so bad for my parent to homeschool me because I got picked on so much. They wanted me to make friends and be with other kids my age. PLus they were lazy and didnt want to. If I would have eventually made friends it would have been okay, but I was harrassed so badly and got so tired of it that I dropped out. I did end up getting my GED and going on to college, but I wish to this day that my parents would have just listened to my pleas to be homeschooled because Ive suffered so much and have had my esteem beaten down so many times that I thought Id never recover. But, I have healed somewhat, though not completely. Im still working on it one day at a time and am seriously thinking about homeschooling my daughter, but I dont know......

The public school system has been churning out perfectly well-adjusted people for centuries. They get their bad name from the overwhelming amount of news coverage on the kids that don't come out well-adjusted. If a parent feels homeschooling is the way their family should go, more power to them. But, I see absolutely nothing wrong with sending a kid to public school.

Not all public schools are horrible, nor are all home school situations terrific. I think it is all a matter of what is best for the family and the child(ren) involved.

haha, i agree!! so um, my guess is that (1) cause its the normal thing to do (2) cause people dont want to feel guilty for not homeschooling their kids & (3) because people dont know much about it, so of course, they automatically think that all homeschoolers do is sit at home with our family, which isnt preparing you for the real world. they dont know homeschoolers like me and my friends, we all deal with the regular highschool drama, the gossip, the boyfriends, etc.
