What do you think of the Rush Limbaugh's accusation against Michael J. Fox?

Mr. Limbaugh has said on his national radio talk show that Michael J. Fox is exaggerating his symptoms of Parkinson's disease. He said that if he is wrong he apologizes, however should newspersons be liable for what they say on the air? Or do we live in a time that anyone can say anything that they wish to say without reprisals?

Update:

Most of the answers with the exception of the one who will remain nameless have really restored my faith in human compassion.

Update 2:

Well, I'm not quite sure how to respond to Jim.

Jim, you do make some very valid points and freedom of speech is a very important right. Without it Yahoo Answers would not be in existence. On the point of Michael J. Fox, I have to differ. Mr. Fox has been up front and truthful to the public prior to, during and after airing of the public service announcements about not taking his medications. He wanted to be as real as he possibly could about just how this disease affects him and other people that have contracted it. Being off of his medications has significantly lowered his quality of life. He did not do it because he enjoys being incapable of many things that we, who do not have this disease, take for granted. He did it so that we might have a small glimpse into what many people live with every day. Parkinsons is not as well known as some of the other major life changing diseases and what he did, in my opinion was very brave. However, thank you so much for your comment

Update 3:

My bad, I meant to say Political Ad not Public Service Announcement. My brain just doesn't function without my first 3 cups of coffee. Sorry.

Update 4:

Okay, before I pick best answer, let me say that there were many of them that could have been given the points. I wish that I could have picked more than one, but one is only allowed. Thanks to all that took time out of their day to share their opinions with me. It was a very close race.

As Thumper's famous words go "If you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all"! I don't care who you are especially him, I understand the whole free speech thing but seriously why would you make "fun" of someone with a serious disease? People SHOULD have to "pay" for there actions, He is an idiot and should have to apoligize in person to Michael & also donate a sum or time to Parkinson's research.

Veda: Michael J. Fox ran an analogous advert a pair of years in the past for a Repubican candidate. So, you notice democrats are no longer the only occasion to apply people, if certainly that's what's happening. Rush jumped on Fox returned the day gone by after his fake apology the day formerly. it quite is even worse once you have a image to place together with his words. you are able to view at resource hyperlink under. you additionally can view the two considered one of Michael's advertisements.

Hey guys~ Michael J. Fox wasn't acting or faking in the ads... & of course he wasn't exaggerating... Parkinson's disease affects movement (motor symptoms) so that's why Michael J. Fox was terribly shaking & couldn't control his movement... What a horrible thing to say to people who has Parkinson's disease...

Shame on Senator Talent & Rush Limbaugh... Boo~

I heard this on Howard Stern. I can not believe this. How can anyone be so cold as to accuse someone of faking a disease like that? I personally think they should do something about it, but you know they aren't going to. I support Michael J. Fox 100% in this.

At best Rush is insensitive and ill informed. At worst he is making light of a serious disease that has such sad effects. There was not much said about Rush's drug problem. I do agree that both are diseases. The treatment is very different.

Parkinson's disease is a terrible illness that eventually debilitates it's victims. They shake terribly and become depressed and rigid. There is no exagerations to be made. Rush Limbaugh is an idiot and a hypocrite. Remember when he got addicted to pain killers? He is such a self-rightous prick.

People should be responsible for what they say. Just because you're a famous personality doesn't give one the right to say what one pleases and escape the repercussions. Too many "famous" people make remarks without checking the facts and think they can just get away with it because most of us are too lazy to check their "facts". The same goes for a lot of politicians........I'm sick of them.

The senators and congressmen in our government need to put the welfare of the United States above their own agendas. They need to be leaders and not self-serving autocrats. You know who you are.

As for Rush Limbaugh, he's entitled to say what he wants. In this instance he is correct. M.J. Fox admits to not taking his medications prior to being filmed so the unknowing audience can see just how bad the disease is. The rest of the time he takes his meds. Is that being honest?

Limbaugh is a moron...I dont know why he still bothers to hang around the political circuit...his views are totally bogus....why would he say those horrible things about Fox and his condition?? Ive seen people with Parkinson's and its sad to see them shaking uncontrollably like that...with no potential cure...

I consider Limbaugh a disgusting lowlife. And yes, we are living in a time when anything can be said without reprisal, as is apparent in many of Limbaugh's asinine remarks.

It's a known fact that drug use can alter your personality and cloud your judgment.

So, hopefully Mr. Limbaugh isn't really a mean jerk and that was just the Oxycontin talking.
