can anyone help me identify a goldfish?
A coworker is on vacation and unfortunately, her goldfish died (it wasn't my fault!! His rear end got sucked into the filter before she left, and we knew he probably wouldn't make it due to the damage.) I want to replace him for her before she returns. I've been to a few pet & speciaty fish stores and I can't find this little guy. I don't know much about goldfish, so I was thinking someone could help me identify what I am looking for. He was completely orange with a couple of white markings on his tail, very round, and had a relatively short tail. He did not have any growths on his head. His eyes did not bulge out. He looked a little bit like some of the Pearl Scale fish I've seen pictures of online, but he didn't have those distinctive pearls under the scales. I was told by another co-worker that he had circular scales (not sure how common that is.) He had definite problems with swim bladder. Any ideas of what type this could be?

Here is a website that might help you. http://www.wikipedia.org/ Just type in goldfish. If you go to Varieties of domesticated goldfish it will show you different ones. I hope this will help you find the one you are looking for. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Good Luck !!!!!

It sounds like a fantail goldfish, which is one of the most common varieties. It might be difficult, however, to find one that looks exactly like the one that died (because their coloration is extremely variable and often changes before the fish matures).
It would probably be best to just explain to your coworker what happened, and hopefully she'll understand. You may also want to offer to buy her a new one as a replacement (even though it wasn't your fault it died, they are only a few bucks and it would probably make her feel better).
Also, you'll want to fix the filter so the fish can't get sucked into it. Filters generally have a plastic basket-like piece over the intake tube that prevents fish from getting sucked into the filter. If the filter is missing this, it will need to be replaced. If it is there, and the fish still got stuck to the filter, then the fish was sick before it died on the filter. Healthy fish will not get sucked into properly-protected filters.
Hope that helps.

I'm not sure which way you mean around. As in is it round or oval shaped or round as in it looks like a orange bouncy ball with fins. So I'm just gonna give you a link to a site that has virtually every golfish type on the right side of the page are the links.
Often times if it's not a breed of goldfish which has a common color pattern, like comet goldfish which all look like one another, then it will be even harder or impossible to find its twin. I would say the best thing to do is tell your wo-worker what happened and just by a goldfish or ask her if you could by her a fish to replace it. She might have already been considering another type of fish to get if that one died.
