Take the babies outside, lay down newspaper. Get a can of oven cleaner-shake it well. Spray the bottoms to a heavy foam. After about 10 minutes spray thick again & leave over night or 24 hours & rinse off,then inside with hot soapy water & scrub well. Won't have to do much elbow grease. the foam oven cleaner will do the work for you.

Copper bottom pans? Fill a sink with vinegar water, 50/50 or stronger, put pots in, let sit an hour or so. Rinse off, lots of the gunk will be gone. Burned on stuff can be scrubbed off with Barkeeper's Friend. Once they are almost completely clean, clean with a copper polish. Wash thoroughly & dry. Treat weekly with copper polish.

Salt and lemon juice: Sprinkle salt on the bottom, cut a lemon in half and use as a scrubber moving over the salt. Add more salt as needed. Works like a charm due to the chemical reaction of salt and lemon juice on copper. Rinse well when finished.

Fill the pot up w/cold water to cover the burned on rice. Bring it up to a boil. Do it again w/some high powered soap in the mix. This time let the water sit in the pan until its luke warm, dump it out and scrub it up w/the plastic scouring pad. You should be all set.
