my 12 week old female kittens will not use their litter boxes?

I adopted 2 female kittens on Tuesday November 7th. So far I can not get them to use the litter boxes. They both poop on the floor. Any suggestion on how I can get them to use their litter boxes?

Update:

They were born outside and were being raised outside.

Once you put the kitty in the litter box they will go there from that time on. Do not move the kitty box around. Put the food and water not to far away from the litter box. Put the cats and the litter box and the food in one room for a few days. After they are comfortable, give them more space in the house. They are probably just lost.

Put them in a small room, like a bathroom, with a litter box. Gently put them in the box, and rake their paw through the litter. If you have some of their "leavings" that you found around the house, put them in the litterbox. This will tell them that is where it belongs.

Do not let anything like dirty laundry or papers or even a bath mat on the floor. Nothing for them to use to go and cover, but the litter box. You can put their food and water in there a good distance from the litterbox. They don't like to eat where they soil. Keep them in that room for a few days, until you see they are using the litter box. If they make a mistake, put it in the box and clean the spot they used.

Once they are using the litterbox, without mistakes, you can open the door and allow them access to the outside world. Do not carry them away from the litterbox. They must walk their own way out into your world from it, so that they can find their way back to it. They have scent glands in their feet that makes it possible for them to retrace their paths.

When they earn their freedom, you might want to place another litterbox somewhere else in the house. This will ensure they are always close when they need to use one. Once they get the hang of using a litterbox, they automatically know what another one is for.

I am not sure, but I used to work at a vet clinic and people would always come in with that question. The vet would always ask how many litter boxes they had. He always said you should have one more litterbox than the number of cats you have, because some cats defend their litter boxes not allowing other cats to use them ( even females ). So you should get three litter boxes and seperate them throughout your house. Hopefully that will help.

they probably do not like the litter. try using different kinds until you get the right one. also neutrelise where they have pooped with some white vinegar so they wont go there again. they are now 3 months old so it may be hard. my cats were raised inside but one always goes outside to potty. u really should check with several different vets for the correct .answer.I would try the litter closest to the dirt texture

This sounds crazy, but it works, Put butter on all there feet and hold them in litter box for about 30 seconds, they will try to shake off litter, but let them do it, not you.......

it must be which you haven't any longer wiped sparkling the previous pee scent up nicely sufficient, and the kittens now think of this is okay to pee someplace else. i might advise making use of yet another clutter container and cleansing it greater suitable than once or twice an afternoon. additionally determine you relatively scrub the factors they have been peeing to get the scent out. in the event that they're making use of a particular spot, placed tinfoil down in those factors, because of the fact the kittens won't prefer to bypass on them and use them as a rest room.

OMG DITCH THE LITTER!!! try sand, worked with my baby (5 months old, wild cat). its all about the texture. Or clay. Many younger kittens like newspaper.
