Boil some sliced ginger in lemon juice and honey. It tastes spicy and sweet, and works. I have terrible cough every winter and early summer, and a guy from Malaysia told me this remedy.
Once I went to a doctor because beynlin didn't work, and they gave me some cough medicine that made me walk around while I was asleep.
Ah, also, if you buy Vic or eucalyptus oil, then put it in hot water and inhale the vapour. It helps too.

Do you have other symptoms of a cold, runny nose, congestion, or the like? The reason I ask is because I had a horrible cough, with no other symptoms, but it FINALLY was diagnosed as acid reflux. No joke. It was a tickly cough, in the back of my throat, started as a mild cough, in the two years it took to get a proper diagnosis, it developed into a horrendous cough. Now I take Prilosec.
Good luck.
Peace.

Olbas Oil - a few drops on your top or in a bowl of hot water and breath in the steam - a tickly cough normally means you've got a sore throat indicating an infection below possibly in your chest...

A spoonful of honey will help to do the trick! And avoid dairy products whilst the cold persists as this can make your throat quite mucousy. A really good commercial herbal cough medicine however is Covonia herbal mentholated cough mixture! It rocks!!

The best thing is to drink plenty of hot drinks. Herbal tea is best as it doesn't have caffeine which can make it worse. Sip it and you'll find it works better than anything. The reason that Lemsip and honey & Ginger in hot water work so well is simply because you are sipping a hot drink.

Silver colloidal water is a formidable cure along with a Golden Seal and echinacea combo. (Secret Chinese remedy)
I have not had a common cold last longer than a few days with this stuff. Silver colloidal water should be mixed with juice.
This water is a very old remedy and is under-advertised.

Nothing works better than hot milk with a little bit of rum in it. Trust me, you'll feel SO much better. I do it when I feel really sick and can't afford loosing work days. Obviously it's convenient to drink it at night before going to bed. Cover your self with multiple blankets so that you'll sweat it all out. In the morning take a nice shower, drink something warm and you're on your way! You gotta try it to believe it :)
Source(s): As far as I know it's a Russian home remedy. My co-worker is Russian and she uses it too. However, I'm Italian and I heard about it when I was a child. - Anonymous1 decade ago
