I would use some flower essences on them to reduce the tension and help them settle in together. Go to www.spiritessence.com and read about the essences. They are quite good at eliminating emotional problems between cats, inexpensive and easy to use.
The cats obviously need some help in overcoming their differences and making a good adjustment to one another.

Your old cat thinks that your new cat is getting more attention than her. The same thing happens when a new baby is born in the family. The older kid tries to attract the mother's attention and tries to keep the younger child out of his way.
Give more time to your old cat as well. Play with both cats together. This will improve the affection between them and so, they won't fight.

Give it some time. All your older cat knows is that there's this new cat who is invading its territory. So the older one could be kind of jealous. Just think, after years of not having to share food and the couch, etc. it is bound to be uncomfortable for a while.

its normal for the older cat to feel threatened, when it comes to interacting with them, show the older one attention first, feed it first, play with it first,etc... the younger one will not mind and will adapt easily to its role in the house,

its because your 12 year old cat doesnt want you to have another cat, it only wants you to have 1 cat. just give them some time to adjust with each other.
