is $3.83 enough?

recently I started babysitting for 2 kids a 4 1/2 month old and a 2 yr old. in the beginning I felt sorry for the mother that claimed that she was on salary and for no reason her boss took it away and put her back on hrly. she didnt know what to do and cant really afford to pay alot for babysitting, I told her that i would charge her $2.00 per hr per kid, which is still cheap. the first day that i had them she picked them up and said that she calculated it to be $3.83 per hr . since I have been babysitting for a month now she brings the kids later and later because she cant get up to go to work on time, so there fore i make next to nothing,.I also found out that she pays her other babysitters exactly what she pays them at work , shes a dairy queen mananger, so when she doesnt havea babyitter she gets one of her employees to do it and pays them what they make at the dq...was just wondering what some of you would do if this was your situation?

Tell her that you feel you are not being adequetly compensated for your time and the job you do, and that because of it, you are looking for a new job. She sounds like she's taking advantage of you. $2/hr/kid is NOT unreasonable. It's very fair, and if she can't add $2 & $2 and get $4, then it's no wonder she's making less at work.

Explain that while you are happy watching her children, you just can not continue unless she pays what you asked up front- $2 per hour, per child. She'd have a hard time finding quality day care for $3.83 an hour for two kids. In fact, she wouldn't crappy day care for that.

If she refuses to pay what you originally agreed on, then cut your ties, and find a different job.

I would tell her that you thought about it and you don't think she is paying you a fair amount. Tell her what you think would be fair and why. No I don't feel that what she is paying you is enough, but it depends on your age and experience.
