How much does college help a person who enlists in the army?

Does having a college degree garauntee you a higher rank as an enlisted soldier? I'm 24 and currently in college, I spent 5 years in the army and it always seemed like the more education and smarter you were the more discriminated against you were by uneducated nco's. Is having more education a benefit or a burden among enlisted soldeirs? It seemed like the most educated guys were stuck as specialists or buck seargants? Maybe someone else can tell me I'm wrong.

Being smart is good, smarter- even better, but can you operate and maintain a rifle? Its important to know how to operate the tools to eliminate the enemy, this is your #1 priority. But yes, if you go enlisted, you'll start off at either e-2, or e-3.

If you have a college degree....please go in as a officer or as soon as possible try to go from enlisted to officer....you will get no respect as enlisted especially if you are 18-25 then you will be treated like a child and will not be respected until you get that officer rank!! I know i went in at 18 made rank very fast with in 3 1/2 yrs i was E-5 and got no respect because of my young age....if i was an officer they would have to respect me...so go in as an officer in the army or air force...good luck!!

I heard it does...u enter as an officer, instead of a whatever its called. so u will be one step higher then the other new recruits. (im no army expert) but when i was signing up to join the canadian army they said i would enter as an officer because of my university degree. its like that for almost all armies i think.

If you are lucky, it can change your MOS from a grunt to a REMF..

    and get you into OCS.
