Is there such a thing as an intelligent republican?

It seems from previously posted questions that republicans are good at slagging off at democrats. Yet from the mid term elections it would seem that the people have gone for the more intelligent alternate. So are there any intelligent republicans or are they just a bunch of babies who can't face electroral defeat. should they change there name to Rebublican (bub for babies)?

Update:

It seems that some of you have missed the point. The republicans will do anything to get and stay in power. Just look at how push illegally came to power (Florida). The rest of us in other countries know the truth about the Rebublicans.

Of course there are. I am a democrat, but I understand that the answer to everything is not "tax and spend". We would all like our taxes lowered. I think we all care about the security of our country. I think government does a lot of things it doesn't need to do. I have no problem with these and other republican PRINCIPLES in a lot of areas.

But I just can't help from asking: if Bush has a 31% approval rating, who are these people? Where's MY tax cut (I don't make $100,000.00 per year). What has he done to make our country safer (Osama Bin Laden? Anyone remeber him?)? Why did he inherit a surplus and turn it into our countries largest deficit EVER? Where's the fiscal responsibility in that? Are flag burning and Gay Marriage amendments REALLY that important to the republican party or are they just a smoke-screen for his failures?

I believe there are three kinds of Republicans:

    1. Red necks with little education but big ego and big sticks

    2. extreme right conservatives and religious fanatics (come to think of it, may be the same as those with little education)

    3. intelligent, greedy people who know very well what's their doing by voting Republicans: using the brainless crowd to achieve their goals to make the rich (themselves) richer at the expense of the poor and middle class

To be fair, there may be a few well intended, intelligent Republicans who are just trying in vain to do something good. Unfortunately, they are a minority in their party.

I am a liberal who usually votes Democrat but I can answer your question for you. Yes there are intelligent Republicans. There are intelligent members of both parties. There are also members of both parties that are less than effective. The ones I have the most problem with are those (Republican and Democrat) that continue to practice divisiveness. The ones that continue to make ridiculous generalizations really bug me. They are not all politicians in office. Many are questioners on yahoo answers.

This divisiveness has been hurting our country by continuously dragging it down. Those who practice this divisiveness may be intelligent but their actions are not very smart.

I'm a Republican and by measures generally employed, I'm smart. I got straight A's in University in Greek and Latin <while I had two little babies>. My reading comprehension scores were in the top two percent of high school seniors when I was 11 years old. My math rated super high, too.

You don't understand who Republicans are. Lincoln was the first and now, after all this time, there is a book to smear him, too. Don't you ever wonder why the people who had the stones to stop slavery are so maligned now?

Please don't try to say the Dems just elected are smarter or better. That is so trite. I'm not whining about the election and neither are my friends. We know that there are a lot of stupid, shallow people were induced to vote in this last election and they will feel the discomfort of poor leadership soon, like we all will. You want higher taxes? They'll offset the increase in minimum wages just perfectly. It's great if you're on government benefits and don't work.

Actually, if you are interested in voter fraud, Dems wrote the book. Do a little research on Chicago and Mayor Daley. There is the super charging of voter fraud. Also, Republicans are too nice to fight hard in elections.

Well it was a pretty damn close election in many of the races to begin with. People can have different beliefs and opinions and be intelligant. Theres nothing that makes democrats more intelligant than someone with republican views.

In reality, there is little to choose between them other than the fact that the democrats tend to be self-rightous, vicious and dishonest. I personally would consider voting for a republican but would never consider voting for a democrat because they are rarely mature enough to hold office or even vote.

While I am not a republican, I'm a libertarian, I think the worst possible party is the democrats. Hopefully, I'm moderately intelligent since I hold two seperate engineering degrees.

To answer the Cueless-Nerd, the alleged surpluss was pure, unadultrated fraud. It never existed other than on paper as a way to embarrass the republicans. I might ask you about Clinton's Dot Com bubble he allowed to florish, which cost thousands of middle class people to lose their life saviings.

Let me ask you the same question in reverse. Is there such a thing as an intelligent DEMOCRAT?

People are scared and want change. That is the ONLY reason the democrats won the mid term elections.

WHY CAN'T WE ALL JUST BE AMERICANS? WHY MUST WE ALWAYS BE DIVIDED?

wtf yeah there is a such thing as a smart republican.. bush didn't come into power illegally.. that recount was there but it was what was truee. al gore never did deserve to be president. bush did. al gore was all for the money. bush was for the good of the country. i don't think that al gore could have reacted the same calm way that bush did in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. you want a man that is doing things for the good of the country and not for the money. someone who does things for the money could care less about anything else. look at john kerry hes a liar and all he wanted to be president for was the money.. a man who is determined to turn this country around for the better deserves presidency. I AM GONNA TELL YOU THIS RIGHT NOW GEORGE W. BUSH IS A SMART REPUBLICAN. SO YEA THERE IS A SUCH THING AS A SMART REPUBLICAN. AND YEAH THERE IS A SUCH THING AS A DUMB DEMOCRAT. hell naww they aren't gonna change their name.. democrats will to dumocrats.

Sure. You must be hanging around the wrong crowd.

If you are wise enough and know anything about "the people," you know that the herd is not too smart. It is unfortunate and a bit sad that the Dems rely upon the most uninformed among us in order to get elected.

I am looking forward to the Democrats driving from the driver's seat instead of the back seat. We will see if they can handle driving a stick with some horsepower. If they are smart, they will realize that employing their usual "Robin Hood" tax policy is a recipe for failure regarding the future welfare of this country.

    Time will tell.
