How come religious people get so angry when someone questions their religion?

Does your god demand you act this way? Do you feel the need to threaten violence and rapture and even death to all disenters to sate his ever-growing thirst for blood?

All religions allegedly preach peace and love, but then a non-delusional skeptic reads your books, and it's violence and lust for power and authority. And, this one begot that one and so on.

Just wondering why, in the many years of holy book study, some of the first responses to anyone saying "I am an Atheist." elicits rage in some of you peace-loving yahoos.

It's akin to having their crutch kicked out from under them...this is also why religious people tend to hate atheists and agnostics so much. They take offense to anyone who didn't fall for it, like they did.

  • Ask any question, just be respectful. (I'm not saying you were not respectful in your post, it's just a suggestion if you weren't.)

I encourage questions. I love to tell about my faith and what it is that I believe and why. I don't feel the need to be hostile.

I have seen people post that the living God is violent. As you go through the Old Testament, you will find before every judgment, there was an offer of mercy. Every time.

God prefers mercy over judgment, some do not want His gift.

Again, ask any question you want...just be respectful and most people (not all) will be respectful back.

Hello, not all religious people get angry when someone questions their religion. It is a persons choice if they want to be an atheist or not. No one can control what another feels or thinks but accepting differences in others is a way to grow and learn.

I don't get angry when someone questions my religion. Everyone is free to believe or not. I find it offensive when people insult others and humiliate them and their beliefs. People should learn how to respect each other and live in peace despite differences.

Building your life's ideals around a certain religion and then having someone else try to disprove it is quite frustrating, some zealots take it farther than others. Not religious myself but I have a knack for understanding.

It's a question of reality, isn't it? When religion is more real to a person than life is, a person can get confused about their own morality.

    I like cookies and milk.

It doesn't bother me when someone questions "my religion." I call that an opportunity.

For those it does bother, perhaps they are insecure in their beliefs; I.E. - Lack of faith.
