If the draft gets re-instated?

Actually, the debate was: it was not right that 18-year-olds had to die but yet they couldn't vote. When the government amended the constitution to allow 18-year-olds to vote, they considered that age to be mature enough to drink. The other issue was the draft was only calling the men. Today, with EOE it is only fair that everyone that gets the call gets to go. And, don't think the draft isn't possible. Truman reinstated the draft two years after the end of WWII when we were in peacetime because the Republicans thought they saw communists everywhere.

That issue is mute. The draft if it goes down. Will have no bearing on drinking age. It, the 21 law, is to embeded into the fabric of "do what the federal govt says" or you get no help.

As for people not going to the place of call up. I personally will call them cowards and demonize them for their not believing in my country.

Besides they have no place to run this time. As Canada and mexico have inplace with help from the US Govt a Law that will return Americans at the border. Looks like it is high time the "I love my freedom, but will not fight for it " crowd gets a taste.

I would have used "MOOT" if that was what I was trying to convey. I used the word "mute" to establish the fact that the "18" drinking age is closed to discussion due to the way the Federal Govt created the modern pratice. But thanks for trying to clarify.

Moving the drinking age back to 21 wasn't done very quietly in Tennessee. You ask an interesting question but it is also a moot one.

Congressman Rangle brought the draft up (he has been doing it for a couple of years) to make a couple of points. One, the war in Iraq, and Rumsfelds plan for a smaller military have wrecked our ability to effectively respond to military needs that might suddenly arise. Two, the enlisted military personnel that are fighting this war are primarily (not totally) coming from the lower middle to lower income groups. A draft with a no exemption clause would bring people in from across the economic spectrum.

The reason your question is a moot point though is because Pelosi and Hoyer have made it clear there will be no draft vote in the House. There is probably also no way Harry Reid is going to let it come up for a vote in the Senate next year either.

Do you people who previously answered this question even know what it says? Its not asking "Is there going to be a draft" its say hypothetically if there was a draft would the drinking age be lowered...

I think that if the draft was reinstated that there would defenately be a big debate about lowering the drinking age to 18. Currently law officals are pretty easy going onpeople who are in the military anyways, as they should be. So therefore if the drinking age wasn't legally lowered those people who are assigned to go fight for our country would probably not get in trouble for drinking anyways.

It has a better chance in the next two years of being addressed than any other time. Keep in mind that the drinking age is the result of the fundamentalist Christian movement within the republican party. Whenever the republicans are in office, laws and ordinances regarding "vices" are always passed, most of the time without public review. There are grass-root movements trying to remove the federal enforced drinking age, citing that the legal age of being an adult is 18, therefore any infringement of rights that involve freedom of consumption is unconstitutional. I believe the ACLU has info pertaining to that issue as well.

There will be no draft, but I am really glad to see the first thing that comes to your mind is the legal drinking age. What a patriot! Move to Canada if you want a lower drinking age.

The draft would not substitute the wealth imbalance.
