Can a diabetic drink fresh orange juice?

I am a type 2 diabetic and have probs with my glucose levels continually rising and wanted to know if drinking home made carrot and orange juice would cause this...

    In moderation and preferably as part of a meal.

    I have type 2 diabetes and I drink fruit juices occasionally, but as part of a meal. Fruit juices have a high sugar content and because they are liquid they get into the system quicker, causing sugar levels to rise rapidly.

    My basic diet is wholefoods and includes whole grain cereals and plenty of fruit and veg., but I do have a few 'naughties' in moderation and usually as part of a meal so the body is not 'flooded' with sugar.

    Have a look into the GI diet, this will give you some idea of the speed foods pass through the body, some are longer lasting than others.

    there is a lot of sugar in orang juice even fresh. the problem with juice any juice is that you are only getting the juice not the fiber you get in the whole fruit. So cut down on the amount. If this is something you like then limit yourself to a 4 or 6 ox glass and count it in your carbs or exchanges what ever method you use asuming you have a method.

    Orange juice is very high in carbs, so a no to that. But carrots hardly contain any carbs, so if you make pure carrot juice that'd be ok. Have a look for a little dieters calorie counting book - there are a few on the market that tell you how much carbs are in things too. Look up the carbs in everything you eat for a few weeks and you'll soon notice surprising things about the amount of carbs in things - eg. cherry tomatos taste sweet but are v. low in carbs, and I thought carrots would be carbs like potatoes, but they're not! - gives you good ideas for low carb meals and snacks. x

    Fruit and sweet vegetable juices have natural sugars that can contribute to high glucose levels. There are multiple web sites that list nutritional values of these items. If you plan on having a glass of fruit juice or carrot juice, make sure you have left room in your daily diet for the extra sugar. Your doctor and the American Diabetes Association should have lots of literature available to you. Good luck.

    My mom has pre-diabetes :(. It was passed down through our family, she's not fat by the way, not all diabetics have weight problems. Anyway, she is watching her carbs and calories and drinks tea daily. If you follow a good diet, and at least try some tea, (apparently it works!) your diabetes should weaken. There is not much sugar in fresh orange juice that I know of, just drink it in moderation. I would check your blood glucose levels after drinking orange juice, and watch for trends in glucose levels.
