A good book, a greeting card assortment and stamps, a DVD of an old movie like Singing In the Rain, a framed picture of her grandchildren, a nightgown or robe, a gift of food or a fruit basket from a catalog like Harry and Davids, a gift cert. for a nearby supermarket.

When my Mom was in a nursing home, the other ladies loved it when I offered to give them manicures. If you've gotten professional manicures, the best part is the massaging of your hands and lower arms. I was by no means very good at this, but the touching and pampering was what was really important.
Also, music is very healing. If they have CD players, perhaps, a personalized CD with their favorite songs downloaded from I-Tunes or a similiar site would be very enjoyable.
If possible, whatever you give, plan to spend some time; they have great to stories to tell and worlds of wisdom to share. We need to take care of our elders.....You are very generous to be thinking of these ladies.....

I know that older ladies like booties to go on their feet because their feet are always cold,my Mom loved booties..You can get really fluffy and soft ones...Also a throw is nice because they like a little cover on them when they get cold...You are right they like powder and lotions and perfumes. They like little change purses cause they always have change. You could go to the dollar store and but a little basket and put powder, lotion,a little bottle of perfume,it don,t have to be expensive,a pair of soft booties, some fruit, and but that clear wrap and wrap the basket and put a big bow on it and they would love it...Also older people love pictures, throw in a picture of yourself...good luck

I heard once that those who are senior citizens mostly want (gifts) things they need yet can't afford anymore.........knick-knacks and such are already over flowing in their homes, they do not want that kind of stuff. They request things like light bulbs (no kidding, they do), a paid light bill, maybe a paid guy that comes and shampoos their carpet, a manicure (have the manicurist come to the home), homemade prepared food that you individually freeze for them to warm up. Things they can no longer afford or do for themselves, hope this helps.

sure I omit those days! The categorised classified ads are already screaming at us for Father's Day. I constantly offered my dad a touch fishing seize or some thing like that as quickly as he replaced into residing. there replaced into basically a commercial that reported we purchase our dads a great reveal screen television, a table observed or a brand new ipod! in keeping with possibility for the Rockefellers. all of us have too plenty stuff. Anymore, basically somebody dropping by making use of (in keeping with possibility regardless of each thing the social gathering) for espresso and communication is the main suitable present. then you may ask in the event that they prefer something achieved, an errand or something out of the prevalent; in case you may help them with that, that is plenty liked.

I am sure they both would just love for you to spend time with them for Christmas. Bake some cookies and go visit with them and have some coffee and cookies and just talk about whatever comes to mind. I'm sure a nice plant would really brighten their day. I have done this before for someone that I cared for when I worked in a nursing home and it just made her day because she had no other family and for me to take time out of my day to do this for her just made it even more special.

Try a nice plant or a picture frame. If they have a hard time reading, read to them or just sit and talk. The best gift that you can give them is your time and consideration.

They probably need nothing you can buy with money. If you want to give them a real gift, spend time visiting and talking with them. Visit until you see them getting tired or uncomfortable. You won't regret it and you should feel good that you gave them something they REALLY need.

You could give them a gift cert. to get their hair done. It is one of the most asked for gifts in the elderly community. Women love to go get their hair washed and set and styled. Also you could do slippers for them. But give them your time.

Normally oder ladies like puzzles. You can try that. And how about baking some cookies.
