I sit unethical to take a permanent job offer if you aren't sure how long you will stay?
am currently a temp at a company. I like the people I work with and some of what I do but I am getting paid very little and have no benefits. Now they want to offer me a permanant position wih a title change and a nice raise. I don't know how much longer I will stay in the field (I want to go back to school) but I do need the insurance and a pay raise would be awesome.
Is it unethical to take the permanent position?
What would you do?
Would you accept a permanant job offer if you aren't sure how long you will stay in the field?

I don't think its unethical. No one probably intends to stay at a job forever, and we have to take care of our own needs (food shelter, clothing, etc) the best way that we can, so we need income. It would be crazy to turn down a better opportunity now, and in the future. You are just playing the game. Permanent doesn't mean forever. I don't feel you have to tell your employer anything about your future plans; that may cause them to re-think the offer they have made for you. it's a job, not a marriage, so you need to do what's best for you and your situation.

Take it. Take it. Permanent is relative. It is not unethical. It is common sense. Since you don't know how long you will be in the field there is no doubt that you will be there until you decide to do something else. Going back to school is apparently not carved in stone and you can always take classes while you are working. Take it!!!

No it is not unethical. Take the job...and do your best. I have hired people for permanent positions that have left and I was grateful for the time the did a good job for me.

It is not unethical to take the position but you should be upfront with the employer and thank them very kindly for the chance for advancement and tell them honestly what your plans are.
If they want to keep you, they'll hopefully make you an even better offer.

I think you should think of your needs. Better pay and insurance would be very good for you. You must be doing a good job if they are offering you a promotion, so continue doing a good job and take your pay raise and insurance. If things in your life take a new direction, put in your two weeks notice and move on. Be ethical to yourself, you deserve it.

Yes, dont turn down the job. Take the pay increase, and the benefits and continue to do a good job for them as you are now. If you decide later to return to school thats your deision. Who knows the company might pay for it through its benefit plan! And they are obviously grateful to have you as an employee so I say thats a good deal.

Take it! I would.
I think it only be would be unethical if you knew you were going to leave in a short period of time and not tell them.

Take the job.
Most companies would not tell you that they are laying you off in 6 months. All's fair in the working world I say.

it is not unethical if you tell your employer of your possible future plans.
