Do not use abuse to teach your dog how to properly act.?

I agree with you and have noticed quite a bit of those suggestions.Positive training is how we rehab our dogs. You have to be firm, positive and consistant in training a dog. First they have to know what it is you expect since they can not read minds. Dogs naturally want to please their person.

When I get good behaviour or response I really make a big vocal thing of praising. They see how happy I am and pick up quick. Dogs are smarter than we give credit. I don't hand out treats for the heck of it as they cease to serve the purpose. treats are rewards and special for my pack. They learn real quick to sit and wait for me to call their name and get the treat.

Not until I started watching the Dog Whisperer did I realize I was using some of his techniques. Have learned a wealth of info from this guy. He knows his dogs.

I went back to read your answer to another question. You are correct not to "hit". But 7 week old puppies growl and bite thats exactly what they do. The are starting to learn their personalities and what they have to work with. Mom should be teaching them what is acceptable behavior and what is not. Holding the snout or tapping a pup on the nose will not hurt them in anyway. Watch what the momma may do if she gets bitten. I have had pups scream for several minutes after mom tells them no. Mom is not nearly as nice she knows they have to learn right from wrong.

I do believe some people talk about beating their dogs just to get a rise out of someone. Don't get to worked up about what people say on here and take everything with a grain of salt.

Are you completely out of touch with animal behavior? Have you ever watched a dam discipline her puppies? Or a pack leader disclipline a subordinate?

It depends on the dog, they need to be treated as individuals!There are many dogs I would never use harsh methods with. There are also some dogs who couldn't care less about treats and would just like to attack.

This ones size fits all, warm and fuzzy, never say no kind of training is the reason why so many dogs are either out of control or attacking. They are not human children! They are animals! To take an aggressive dog and treat it as a 'furbaby' is DANGEROUS!

How could you think that holding a dogs mouth shut or a "tap" on the nose is abuse? Where did you learn about behavior and training, Petsmart???

I agree Besides I would never hit my dog or hurt them I love them thier like my family no They are apart of my family

I know you are going to hate this but I have broke everyone of my dogs by lightly biting an ear when they bite me.

i agree with you, the same applies to horses, never resort to force or abuse to geet them to do something!
