Radeon9550 8X AGP Video Card...?

Old Compaq DeskPRO EN(tower) now running WinXP ver.2002 serivce Pack2 w/Intel Pen III, 865mhz,512mb of Ram. My old video card was a Intel 82815 graphics controller. I was trying to play "18Wheels of Steel Haulin'", but nothing. checked prism3d log to find "openGL detected, refusing to run the game in openGL" and also "there is no rendering device "gl". I was told it was due to outdated video card so would the Radeon 9550 8x AGP 256mb DDR solve my problem? The game requires pentium4 1.4ghz, 256mb of ram,540mb HD space, 64mb AGP DirectX 9 and T&L compatible video accelerator card, DirectX 9.0c or later(included on CD) DirectX compatble sound card, mouse, CD-Rom drive.

The Radeon is fine, it's likely your old processor/mainboard that's not SSE2 compatible that's probably the issue. You may need to update the Intel AGP GART driver directly from Intel. Don't confuse this with the AGP driver for your card what I'm talking about are motherboard/processor drivers. That card is DX9 and TnL compatible so I know it's your motherboard/processor drivers. They're probably quite outdated and it's not recognizing the AGP card properly. Essentially you either.

    1. Need to update AGP GART/Intel chipset drivers (then reinstall radeon drivers again -- current ones from the ATI site)

    2. You need a new motherboard/processor, or an nVIDA 6600GT/7300GS AGP might work ok you never know. I would bet an older Gforce TI4400-4600 would work ok.

Also and VERY important is that you disable onboard video properly in the bios before you even attempt to install an AGP card

**I would actually suggest you just look at a Fry's electronics or newegg or Tiger Direct for a cheap AMD socket 754 AGP CPU/motherboard combo and get a 512MB 1 gig stick of PC3200 DDR ram. Some places have the ECS SIS 760GX with a A643200+ newcastle or 3000+ sempron with an AGP slot for pretty good deals.

examine to work out if the recent sys board has a PCI tutor or AGP slot. in case you want to apply your AGP card, then make confident there is an empty 8x AGP slot. in the different case, you're probable to get the more recent PCI tutor structure. perfect needs upgrading your gadget!
