Why do people ask so many questions that could easily found by doing a web search?

L-a-z-y.

Well, in some cases, I think people are too lazy to do their own work and put some effort into finding out what they want to know. Granted, there's some skill required to do a thorough and accurate web search for more esoteric questions, but almost anyone can find basic information.

In other cases, people may want to talk to a real person who's been through a similar situation and can offer sympathy, help, etc. In that case, I can understand where they're coming from.

But that doesn't account for the kids in the Homework section who just want someone to do the work for them. I have little patience for a lazy person who wants me to do their research and their work for them.

Why not. Plus the internet is dangerous and it sure is fun to laugh at their stupidity. And as an answerer I like the stupid people, they often don't get made when you make fun of them with answers like this... get it, got it, doubt it.

Maybe its about human contact. They like knowing that someone is listening to them out there. I think its nice :)

Because you are there to answer their question, like what I'm doing right now answering your question.

this is better than chat rooms and it keeps the ask questions network going

they dont want to wast time searching it, or they already tryed and didn't find anything, or its something personal that you can t search.

too stupid to find a search engin.
