How many of you support drug testing for all elected officials?

The military tests for drugs. The airlines does. Law enforcement tests. Why not the politicians, including the president? Why should they be exempt? I would have physicians drawn randomly and the sample tested in front of multiple witnesses. After all, these people work for us,

This is actually a good idea, but it will never be done. Why?

Because elected officials are the ones who would put it up for a vote, and they never vote to hurt themselves.

Sounds good. Unlike the private sector, elected officials can't be fired for poor performance.

I wonder this though. If we start testing the politicians, should we test before people vote?

I'm against it. I don't care what an employee (including politicians) do on their free time or what drugs they partake in. As long as their doing their job and doing it well, I'm happy. What if someone comes along who leads like Abe Lincoln and starts turning the country into a perfect utopia, but then they test him and he has a little HTC in his system? I think they'd better throw him out and get someone who isn't as a good a leader in there, as long as they aren't smoking the refer.

I agree but the politicians make the laws and I think you're going to find that testing them is going to be very hard to do!

If that ever happned there would be an exodus of democrats from calif......of course Mark Leno..admitted pedophile and drug user would just come up with some scheme to make it ok...like his proposal to let people own 100 pieces of child porn.

Good idea, but why single out only elected officials? It should be done for everyone holding important position because all work for society.I agree that it should be done openly.

I don't believe in drug testing for anyone. If I came to work high, my boss should be able to determine that by my performance. If my work does not suffer, then it is not my employer's business what I do.

I would. Clearly Obama and his administration is on something. Weed? Kool-aid? Crank? Shrooms?
