Does anyone know what that 'great big golf ball' is called in Disney World?

The "giant golf ball," which is actually a geosphere is the icon of one of Walt Disney World's four theme parks, EPCOT, which happens to be my favorite of the parks. The Geosphere holds an attraction/ride called "Spaceship Earth," which is also one of my favorite attractions. It is a 16-minute, slow-moving ride through a story of technological advances in communication over time, and it is told through scenes of Audio-Animatronics. The Geosphere also holds a V.I.P. room for members of the sponsorship when they visit the park. (Most people don't know of this. Members of the sponsorship can enjoy food and drinks while looking over the park. There are glass windows, but you can only see through them from the inside. So from the outside you wouldn't even notice them.)

zyberian - Spaceship Earth is reportedly scheduled to close in April of 2007 for refurbishment, so it will only be closed for an esitmated 16 months. Spaceship Earth will not be closing for good any time soon because business and attendances would drastically drop without the icon and most-ridden attraction at EPCOT.

It WAS ExTERRORestrial Alien Encounter...but they got rid of that and replaced it with a tamed Stitch 'clone'. It wasn't a normal ride, but more of an experience. You spent a couple minutes being attacked by an alien in a small amphitheater through the use of light, sound, movement, etc. Now my favorite Disney World attraction is probably the Test Track at EPCOT. It is a bit more 'educational' than most rides, but I still think it's a ton of fun.

    Hi,

The "great big golf ball" or "Geosphere" as some would call it houses a slow moving ride giving a journey through the history of man.

The ride is called "spaceship earth" and is located in Disney's Epcot park.

    hope that helps.

    Cheers

    Ric

    Spaceship Earth

Spaceship Earth is a ride that has slow moving cars moving throughout the entire structure. They are one after each other. The ball is not only an icon, but it's solar polared. It energizes parts of EPCOT. That is why it looks so funny. They did want to add a roller coaster in there, but gave it up because it would just be too hard to do. And yes, you do see the Earth in the ride.

Spaceship Earth. It's a slow moving ride that shows the evolution in communications. At the end you are at the top of the ball and the roof changes to a planetarium-like roof where you can see the stars and the Earth. It's nice.

Yup, it is Spaceship Earth in Epcot which is a slow moving ride going through the history of communication. It is very pleasant and relaxing.

The ball itself is more of a known structure than associated with the ride, but the ride called "Spaceship Earth" has its entirety inside, its a ride about mans development of technology, its alot better than i make it sound, if you're going there you have to ride it, amazing experience, not due to "state of the art" special effects or mind blowing disorientation, but its a true classic in the making.

lol people like hfr96 said. no offense just using you as a random sample.
