Hi Richard! I have been a customer of Sharebuilder for a few years now and I trust them fully. However, let me give you some secret information. If you sign up for an account, use promotion code ENTERTAIN50 and you'll get $50 free. It costs $4 each time you buy a stock, but about $15 each time you sell. Alternatively, you can trade for free at Zecco.com. Keep in touch, I'm going to be advertising offers like this on my new website (which has not yet gone public yet...but you can get a sneak peak at www.cheapmiser.com/index1.html).

Source(s): I own Z-Financial LLC which has dealt with sharebuilder many times in the past.

    I use Sharebuilders. Excellent service.

They are excellent if you want to invest a specific amount of money each month.Great for a 401K, IRA, etc.

It is all about the discipline; 2nd Tuesday of every month a set amount of $$ flow from your bank account to Sharebuilder.

You can research various stocks, or listen to Cramer :) and make your selection prior to the 2nd Tuesday. They have great tools also.

NOTE: if you are simply looking for the cheapest on-line broker Sharebuilder should be avoided! They are many (Yahoo search) that will execute your trades much cheaper.

Again, I use Sharebuilder for the discipline and dollar-cost-averaging they enable you to experience.

I just turned 30 and I started trading online when I was 19. I've used a number of them but I've found Scottrade to be the best. It has low prices and the services I need. It's more of personal preference but they do win the JD Powers award every year. Their costs are low. On the others, and it may have changed now, there are yearly fees and higher costs. I have heard good things about Ameritrade but not enough for me to leave Scottrade. On another note, once you get comfortable with any of the brokrage firms software/web sites then their interface doesn't matter as much. At that point it becomes just price. I trade and have my Roth IRA with Scottrade. I also believe Scottrade is one, if not the only, online broker that allows you to trade in 6 global markets. I personally think that's awesome because our market is in a "growth recession" right now but it should be going back to growth by the end of the year based on my sources. Considering all the markets in the world just took a major hit from the French bank problem, now's a great time to buy into international markets.

sharebuilder is good for income investing. For normal trading, their commissions are 3 times higher than other brokers. Check out Scottrade.
