Is it pure Castillian or are there other races blended in?

Although many Hispanics will tell you that they are pure-blooded from Spain, that is true of very few people in Latin America. Puerto Rico, like many Caribbean locations, had a large influx of black people from Africa to work on plantations and such. Therefore, Puerto Ricans are usually a mixture of at least European and African heritage.

(And we could point out here that the Iberian Peninsula, where Spain is, historically had a mixture of people such as Moors, Jews, and Caucasians, so the "pure" Castillian blood probably isn't that pure. Not that it matters at all. I figure by now just about everybody in the world has mixed ancestry. And race is a social construct, not a biological one.)

Puerto Rican and Castillian are describing one's ethnicity, they are not pertaining to races of man. Race is determined solely by the color of your SKIN and it has nothing to do with the country of birth. Puerto Ricans come in many colors and so they can be Black, White, Oriental or even Red like an Indian or a mixture of some or all of the races.

They are Spanish from Spain - not just from Castillia- some are mixed with African race or other non Hispanic races.
