In the USA we have ebay.com, which is an extremely popular auction site for people who want to get bargains on clothing. What similar sites are popular in Western European countries? I'm particularly interested in Denmark and the Netherlands, though all Western Europe is of interest.

I have a video file that is about 300 MB in avi format. I would like to reduce it in such a way that it would be possible to e-mail (less than 10 MB or so). I realize that any such compression will degrade the quality of the movie. What file formats do you recommend? Do you know any free software that will do this?

My mom just quoted to us tonight a verse that she learned when she was studying elocution as a child. She says that it's written by a famous poet, but she couldn't remember who. Google didn't turn up the text. Can you help?

I've been working on a website with a "jello" layout (a centered layout), and the layout looks great thanks to the people at Yahoo! Answers. Unfortunately, though, on some computers and in some browsers (i.e. on my boss' Mac running Safari) the website appears too large in width for the window, and the person has to scroll from side to side to see the entire width of the website. Is there any way of correcting this without making everything smaller in number of pixels?

I don't get an upset stomach, so I don't have to take it with food if mealtime is not ideal.

I'd like to see either a list of digital and analog models, or some sort of database where the user can input a TV model number and find out whether the TV has a digital tuner.

As I was putting on one of my favorite wool sweaters today, I noticed it had a hole in it. The affected area is about the size of a dime. It was recommended to me that I take it to an alterations place to have it fixed. How much have you paid for a service like this? The answers will help me decide if I want to do it, and, if I decide to do it, whether the estimate I get is reasonable.

I'm a little confused. People are playing "My Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music around the holidays, but it doesn't talk about Christmas, and the movie isn't Christmas related... has the song somehow been co-opted as if it were talking about Christmas presents?

I'm wondering if reusing pieces of text from reports is a common business practice in the USA. If students in school copy from their school papers or journalists copy from previously written articles, it's often considered plagiarism. But I'm wondering if expectations and practices in the business world are different. What's your experience with this practice?

A classmate of mine was just asking me about a notation that he saw in guitar tablature created by German speakers that looked like an "H" chord. I've never heard of anything like that. Even though I play the guitar well, I haven't played much music written for the German-speaking audience. What could my classmate have been referring to?

The main characters were a journalist and a man who created illusions for a magician. They went around together and solved unusual murders.

I'm working on a website that has a three-column layout with a header and a footer. The left column is used for navigation, and therefore always has the same content. The middle column, however, always expands to fit the content because some pages have more text than others. Since the left column has a background color, it's quite obvious when it stops and leaves a lot of whitespace between the bottom of the left column and the footer. Is there a way to get the left column to expand to its maximum height without specifying a separate height in pixels on each page?
