How do I remove a mirror attached to a wall with adhesive?

We bought our home last year and I decided to change the mirror in the guest bathroom. I removed the screws and clips holding it in place, but it is still stuck to the wall by some adhesive. It is firmly attached to the wall, so what do I do to remove the glass short of breaking it?

Its called mirror mastic. A very strong glue that holds the mirror to the wall. Any type of liquid removal such as laquer. Go to Lowes and tell them your situation and they will point you in the right direction. There will still be a risk of breaking the glass. Also use a paint spatula its help, also called a puddy tool

Is there a way that you can get behind the mirror with a long flat preferably metal stick, something similar to a ruler or butter knife, but longer? You might be able to shimmy the 'stick' up and down in between the wall and mirror.

Your mirror will be ruined if the backing behind it is scratched or peeled. Good Luck!

    ...very carefully...

I've had that problem with some Wayne's coating once. What I did was use a long flat piece of metal to cut through the glue. I think a blade of a bow saw would work pretty well. They're only a few dollars at the hard ware store.

well frist you need to find out if the adhesive is all over

try using some alcohol just Around the sides just put it on some cotton balls and kind of dab it in one area to see if it works if not some thing oily would work like baby oil

it will be messy, but you can pour hot water in to the space between the mirror and the wall, and it will soften up the adhesive enough to pull down the mirror.

and then you will have to mop.

    sorry :(

Try squirting Simple Green behind it. That stuff will take off the stick-on weights they use to balance tires.
