Should gym locker rooms be co-ed?
So I'm changing in the locker room when I hear this man with a nasal voice and a half lisp talking on the phone about how "fabulous" his new curtains look. Obviously a flaming homosexual, right? Anyway, no big deal. It's Atlanta and gay men are as common as a drag queen at a Celine Dion concert. But I start to wonder: do gay men like to "sneak a peek"? So another guy comes out of the shower and whips off his towel to finish drying off. I glance over at the gay man, and sure enough he is oggling the other guy with a big smirk on his face.
So now I wonder, if a gay man can come into the men's locker room and get his voyeuristic jollies, why can't I go into the women's locker room and do the same? Either there should be two more locker rooms for gay men and gay women, or there should be only one locker room for everyone.

A piece of advice: Watch how you word your questions. Yours borders on getting reported. As for your answer, I'm all for a co-ed locker room. This whole gender binary thing is starting to go away anyways. People are being much more open about their sexuality and willing to express/explore it. As long as people respect each other in the locker room(s) there shouldn't be any problems.

A few things: 1) Making seperate bathrooms, etc, for LGBT wouldn't work because people lie and hide their sexuality all the time so you would still have gay and bi dudes who are in the closet, in the same areas as the straights. 2) People usual response to this question, (and it has been asked many times, I have asked a few times before), is that we have seperate bathrooms, etc, because it protects women from being raped from men, and getting unwanted pregnancies. 3) I actually agree with you, I've been saying this for years as I hate going to the gym locker room being hit on by dudes, but I'm not allowed to then check out the chicks. But I suspect that by keeping the sexes seperate, it is safer for women to hit on women, and men to hit on men, than it is for straight men and women to mingle because again, rape and unwanted pregnancy. I personally think the US would grow to be a better place if everything was CO-ED, AND SAFE. Like for instance, CO ED locker rooms, but making the locker rooms safe enough for things like rape and sexual harassment to be completely avoidable. That would be awesome, for it's not just women who get sexually harassed. And not all gay men are weak timid feminine scared dudes who are afraid to show their sexuality. Some of these guys are masculine, sexually aggressive, and not shy about forcing themselves on dudes as non-PC as it is, it's the truth.

You make a very good point although I dont think there should be coed locker rooms or four different locker rooms. I also dont think its right that gay men should be in the locker rooms checking out all the guys. I'm sure some join gyms just for that purpose. Its kind of sick and not fair to the the men using the locker rooms. I suppose if all the straight men realize it eventually they will stop going to the gym and it will eventually be all gay men. Then God only knows what will be going on in the locker room.

No - gym locker rooms should obviously not be coed. But you need to ask yourself why are you taking up so much time oggling other men 'whipping off their towels' and listening to their telephone conversations? And since when is a nasal voice and a half lisp an indication of being gay?And when did Celine Dion become the new gay icon. I am gay and Canadian and frankly I can't stand her. Get a life - or at the very least, start to participate in the one you seem to enjoy watching.

It's all about sex. Not gender, but sex. If you have a penis, you go in one, if you don't, you go in the other. That's all there is to it. Even though I have the mind of a girl, I'm male, and therefore must go to the male (there's a clue) section. Homosexuality is neither here nor there.

I know that the YMCA has a co-ed change room. But they call it a family room where a man, his wife, and their children can all change in the same room.. It's not a gay thing. But your ? is irrevelant as you can't go into ladies shower whether your queer or not. If you do your a sick puppy and maybe just go home and jerk off. Grab yourself a moral and intellingce.

i agree with you there, they need their own locker room, it's only common sense that they need their own place, you wouldn't allow women in men's locker room, so why allow men who like to look at other men in there.its obvious the guy before me is just trying to insult you, when you're asking a very good question.
Shame on him, he gets to go in locker rooms in gyms especially since that's where "gays" like to go. I stay away from gyms most of time, its sad gays want to take over things that don't belong to them.

You only pay attention to the stereotypes because they're the most obvious. God, learn to get some intuiton to recognize other types of gay men, you ******.

If my unit was as small as yours I wouldn't want men to look at it either.
Maybe you could lobby for a dick-less wonder room!
