    This is an excellent question because it touches upon one of the many pastimes of man throughout the ages. We like to categorize things to the point where we can no longer break it down anymore. This is impossible of course. We once thought there was nothing smaller than an atom. The smallest thing went from atom, to electron, proton, neutron, to quark. As far as force goes, there was gravity, inertia, momentum, electromagneticism. The real question is whether these are really the same thing. Some have speculated that any force present in the universe, including our "peace" keeping forces here on earth, all come from the initial "big bang." This could be translated as coming from God. Everything that is comes from God.

    Electromagnitism and Gravity are two of the four basic forces of the Universe. The others are the Strong Force and the Weak Interaction. All intereactions in the universe can be expressed by means of these four forces.

    This is all pretty complicated, so I'll explain as best I can and provide a link.

    Gravity is an effect of matter on every other matter. Essentialy, every thing in the universe is connected to everything else by gravity. The closer you are to something, the greater the effect of it's gravitational force. Also, the more mass something has, the greater it's gravitational force. An above answer is incorrect, Gravity, under very limited circumstances, can push things away.

    Magnitism is part of a larger force called Electromagnitism. Electricity and Magnitism are different expressions of this force. Electricity can be used to create magnitism and magnets can be used to create electricity.

    And for Dynno's information, you can always cut a string, but it's still a string. Particles, as we have seen time and again, can always be broken down into smaller particles that have different qualitys from the particle they form.

    there is a big difference,

    gravity is between 2 masses...

    magnetism is between 2 things only that are magnetic...

    old joke in the factory, for example, is to tell the new guy to go ask joe for his aluminum magnet...

    no such thing of course...

    but gravity and magnetism have many similar qualities..

    .

    string theory sounds dumb to me because you can always cut a string in half,,,

    so i must believe that the basic building block of the universe is a particle...

    Gravity is the force between any two objects. Magnetism is the force between two magnetically charged objects. In fact those objects have both magnetic and gravitational forces acting on them.

    Gravity is the interaction between the two objects that have weight

    magnetism deals with the attraction of magnets while gravity deals with the attraction of the earth

    Magnitism can exert either a push or pull force.

    Gravity's force pull only.
