MAKE 6 IN.BELT LOOPS & SEW IN ACROSS THE TOP EVERY 4 IN. ...THEN RUN A GOLDTONE 1IN.WIDE ROD THRU THE LOOPS LENGTH OF TOP EDGE , LEAVE 4-6IN. OF ROD ON EITHER SIDE OF TAPESTRY---MAKE THE LOOPS 1/2 TO 1 IN. WIDE WITH A HARMONIZING COLOR---SOMETIMES BLACK.........

Visit your local quilting store. They have kits that allow you to hang fabric art on the wall. I'm sure that this will give you the look you want and save the tapestry from ruin.

in high school i remember thinking it looked really cool to hang them from the middle of the ceiling by all 4 corners (with thumb tacks) so it billowed down in the center. it's more 3D that way, instead of boring and flat on a wall.
